An episode that I've heard quoted as being the funniest half-hour in the history of television (although I would personally choose its bizzarro-partner, "The Mango").

As far as I know it's still gets the same rate-of-play as all the others (except, of course, for "The Puerto Rican Day")

In "The Contest" George wins the contest.  In a later show where George
becomes a hand model, the photographer relates how masterbation was the
down fall of a previously great hand model.   George says "Don't worry,
I won a contest" presumably alluding to "The Contest."  But in the last
show of the series George confesses to cheating on the contest.   So, if
he cheated, what contest was he referring to in the hand modeling
show?   Or did he lie while not believing it was a lie?  As in "it's not
a lie, if you believe it."  Any thoughts?

No, it's not true, I've seen it numerous times.  Interestingly enough,
before I started watching the show I was working in an office with
extremely conservative people who thought that that was the best episode
ever.    Whenever anyone completed a difficult task someone else would
reply "Very good, but are you the master of your domaine?"   A really
freaky experience.  People who listen to Rush Limbough religiously
liking this episode!

It's called "The Contest," and if I'm not mistaken it got a 1993 writing Emmy and helped the show win Best Comedy Series that year. And no, they didn't withdraw it. The stations that own replay rights to Seinfeld play it again very often in syndication, and stations always promote it when it's about to come up in the rerun cycle again. Some (including me) would say it might be the single best and funniest 30 minute episode in the history of American comedy television. If it has a rival for that distinction, it'd probably be another Seinfeld episode (maybe Fusilli Jerry or The Betrayal).

I'd agree...while The Betrayal was a basically good episode (are there any Seinfeld episodes which aren't?...speaking from a television point of view...not a Seinfeld point of view) I'd say there are dozens of episodes I'd rather watch before The Betrayal...
