The Contest

I'm very angry and I'd like you to share my disappointment... As you may (not) know, here in France we can - at last - watch Seinfeld on TV. Until yesterday, every episode has been broadcasted, in the production order, it was just fine, i was just delighted... But on monday, they should have aired "The Contest", in fact we saw "The Airport", and according to the station's schedule, the series goes on with the following episodes. So it means we'll never see "The Contest", one of the best shows ever if I got you right. Maybe because of the J.J. Kennedy issue??? I really wonder...

You might be a little disappointed with the Contest since you probably know so much about it now. When it was originally broadcast some of its appeal was due to its shock value, it was unexpected as US television never deals with issues like that on prime-time network sitcoms. (until Jerry and Larry did it, of course).

I'm really not questioning the fact that The Contest was not in France MAYBE for the Kennedy reason, but they just showed The Ex-Girlfriend in the USA and there was a direct reference to John John that could have been easily edited out if there was any apprehension about the family consideration. Perhaps because John John was more "involved" in The Contest it was not shown.

I was shocked by it because, even though I didn't watch Seinfeld at the
time, everyone in the office I worked at was extremely conservative.  It
was particularly shocking because they kept jokingly asking each other
"if they were the master of their domain."   I didn't get until they
told me about the episode, and even the boss who listens to Rush
Limbaugh everyday, was in on it.   If they weren't offended, it's hard
to imagine who would be.

It must be the John John issue...I can't see France considering "The Contest" as too racy to show...

If they only wanted to stop showing it because he died, then I don't imagine we'll ever see the episodes with Mel Torme, or Lloyd Bridges, or references to Mickey Mantle or Frank Sonatra either.
