11/21 Episode: Pretty good overall, except for Elaine.

Tonights episode wasn't half bad at all. I liked most of it. Kramer was great as always, George's conversion to intellegence was hilarious, Jerry was pretty good, I guess. Elaine was the worst though. They really exposed what a shallow, unfunny character she has become with the whole sex thing. I didn't think she was funny at all. I mean, she has literially become stupid. In the past she was much funnier. Tonight the show admited that she is a loser and unfunny.

Highs- -Elaines "doctor" boyfriend was funny. -The whole plot with Kramer and smokers. -Jerry had some funny emphuisms. -I loved George as an intellectual. -David Letterman -Billboard with Kramer smoking.

Lows- -Too much sex! Gezz, it that all these shows can come up with?! -Elaine. -Jerrys plot never took off.

On a scale of 1-10 this episode gets a 7.8.

I agree with the sex thing..way too much of it..It got old after awhile.

Last night's Seinfeld was definitely an improvement over the over-the-top surrealism of the previous few episodes. Seinfeld getting bumped from the junior high was good, and although they overplayed it, the Letterman cameo redeemed the bit.

As other posters have mentioned, George's transformation to "smart" George was much more entertaining (and convincing) than Elaine's becoming an idiot, although again I think these bits were overplayed.

Overall, the show seems to be moving back in the right direction, but it still lacks the focus on the mundane which made earlier episodes so enjoyable.

"The Contest" is considered a classic for the exact same thing. As Jerry would say, "What's the deal with that?"

Agreed, the "Contest" was wholly about a vulgar subject. I think in that episode they handled the situation more creatively. They never even said "masturbation". On "The Absinance" they must have said "sex" a million times.

Duh--Elaine's dumbing down was hysterical. The crossword puzzle clue "Winnie the ______" was a ditzy gem, and when she stood in rapt attention, watching the rotating tire display, I nearly died (I used to live around the corner from a tire place in L.A. which had one of those, and it always astounded me). Seinfeld has been doing a lot of role reversals and dopplegangers this year (The Bizzarro guys, the Kenny Rogers apartment switch, the sex obsession personality change, Kramer's accidental job, Jerry as a comic failure), and it's been a great running joke.

Seinfeld has begun to resemble and even borrow from other sitcoms. They have been using lots of classic sitcom devices this season, which means they're running a little thin, but it's still very good. I don't think for a minute George could hit one out in the Bronx with that swing, but I'll suspend my disbelief for a cheap laff.

They also might consider reining the characters in a little. Frank Costanza's war story (and his fistfight with Elaine) was way over the top (even for him), and Jackie Childs blinking mannerisms and antics have been used more sparingly, and to better effect, in the past. And maybe it's time to de-klutzify Kramer for a program.

It's still the best.

I agree. Elaine looking the rotating tire was hilarious! I watched the show twice, and the second time, I really found it funny. This year, it seems like anaverage. The second time I watch an episode, I like it. The firt time... only The Chicken Roaster.

Elaine's character was totally stupid and obnoxious in this episode, which was rather entertaining otherwise. The scene where she was watching the tires spin around was very painful to watch. Also, her wanting to have sex with Jerry or Kramer was a little too contrived. I know she's been having some problems lately, but that just made her look cheap.

The whole point of the episode was to make Elaine stupid. Lack of sex=stupid Elaine. Get it?

I gave last nights episode an 8. Nothing to complain about yet. fI read somewhere that Jackie Chiles is getting old. What's he been on? 3 episodes? I still think he's hilarious.
