The Contest!

I heard a rumor that the masturbation contest episode is being rerun tonight (at least in the SF Bay area). FYI

It's on either tonight or next Thursday. I read it in TV Guide, but I can't remember if it was this week's or next week's.

Is "Ping" his real name or the character name, or both?  I thought on
the show they kept calling him "Ping".   I didn't get much of a look at him,
but is he the same actor who was in some John Hughes/Molly Ringwald movie
(16 candles?) as the wacky oriental teenager (and a couple other movies
with the same part as well).   It sort of looked like him at a glance.

It was his name on the show, and I think it's his real name as well. As for him being the same geeky oriental teenager ("Long Duck Dong" or something like that, wasn't it?) in Sixteen Candles, I don't think so. I think that Ping Wu looks much older (and yes, I realize that 16C was released in the 80s) than the character in the movie.

It _definitely_ is _not_ the same actor as in 16 Candles (or whatever the name is). That guy was also in a movie with Michael Keaton about a Japanese auto manufacturer with a plant in the U.S. - I cannot remember the name, though (movie or actor).

I believe the actor from "16 Candles" and "Gung Ho" is named Gedde Wantanabe (spelling is approximate at best), and is not the same guy who played Ping.

Gedde also acted in the short-lived Judith Ivey sitcom "Down Home" (set in McCrory's Landing - a bait shop / restaurant (how appetizing!), and he was also an artist in the neighborhood on Sesame Street for at least one season.

(I just realized I watch way too much TV if I know all this crap.)

Well, here in Cleveland, tonight is "The Virgin" (correct title?) and next week is "The Contest"!! Get the VCR ready for the greatest Seinfeld ep of all time (IMHO)... BTW, what was the name of the magizine George was reading in "The Contest" that led to his mom's hospitalization? Was it Glamour?

Yes, The Contest is a classic. It was sure the topic of conversation around work the first time it was run.

Somebody mentioned the story about Jerry and Elaine having sex, I think it was last year. It basically started with the two of them at Jerry's apartment complaining how long it's been since they had sex. They both just thought of it at the same time.

The best part was the ground rules that Jerry though up beforehand, although I can't remember all of them.

Next week is "the Airport" ? Another great one, but do we get all repeats until May 20?

Did anyone else find the Master of his domain comment interesting?

It seems to me that there was a discussion a long while back when we all thought Jerry read this group and we said if your reading Jerry then work this into your show... Superman is the master of his domain.. Well we all know jerry is superman.... And did you see the little smrik that everyone got whenever Master of my domain was said... It was said a few times

Hate to tell you Bruce, but when you were reading the talk a long while back about Jerry reading the newsgroup, you must have missed the talk about this episode being a repeat. That is why the person put up the idea of the comment about Superman being "master of his domain." I think you are reading too much into the facial expressions. Besides, who that reads this group would be clever enough to coin the phrase "master of my domain." Certainly not I. Nice try, but we have to accept the fact that Jerry has not, does not now, and NEVER will read this group!! Oh well......

Did anyone else notice George's dinosaur sheets in last night's episode? I mean, come on, my son had those when he was in kindergarten! I'm not sure if that was out of character for George or not.

Great episode - I particularly liked it when George threw the Tic Tacs at his mom!

I like George, but anyone that beats off to Glamour and sleeps in dinosaur shee ts has got to have problems.

This is my second post in one day! pretty good for a newbie. Well, After seeing the Contest, It's now all too clear and more hilarious the episode about "Not that there's anything wrong with it" where George Jerry have a supposed thing going. What I am referring to is the hospital scene( George's mother fell off the toilet after reading about their affair) where the sponge bath routine is repeated, only with a male/male encounter. I wondered why it was so hilarious to some people. NOW I HAVE BEEN ENLIGHTENED!
