I caught "The Understudy" last night on TV, and I thought I saw something strange in the scene where George runs over Bette Midler. Luckily, I was taping the show. :)
So I went back and looked at the scene. There were two HUGE errors in it. I can't believe they didn't do a better job of editing there. (This is not a flame. I love the show and hope it runs forever.)
First of all, George (er, okay, his stuntman) missed home plate! When he ran over Bette (er, her stuntwoman), he never touched home plate. Depending on the softball rules, he was either: 1) out for missing home plate, 2) safe until someone tagged him (which may have been another motive for being chased by the cast of "Rochelle! Rochelle!" :).
The worst boo-boo in this scene, however, was not softball-related. In the scene where George runs into Bette, a fellow player *clearly* catches her before she careens into the backstop. However, a couple of camera cuts later, we see Bette crumpled up against the backstop. I would guess that the player caught the stuntwoman just to keep her from getting hurt, but the camera angle was too wide and picked up the catch. (In fact, you can read the player's number: "9".) I don't know why they didn't edit this out, but hey, it's just a comedy show.
I guess I'm gonna have to watch the show in slo-mo more often. :)
