Poster questions why the restaurant in the episode objected to Jerry bringing his own maple syrup, arguing that restaurants don't typically prohibit outside condiments and might even save money.

Minor point. Why would any restaurant care if you brought your own maple syrup? It's not like you have to pay extra for it and they'd miss out on the sales, actually it would save the establishment some money. I bring my own hot sauce and salad dressing to restaurants all the time and never once been told to put it away.

I would understand it if they brought their own pop, or they were stashing a pastrami and rye but CONDIMENTS. I don't think so.

See, "Seinfeld" is a comedy and the writers were making a joke. The joke was about places that confiscate outside bottles of booze. Ha ha, funny joke.
