Rachel Sweet on Seinfeld "The Contest"

I just saw the infamous "The Contest" episode tonight (you know, the one with "master of my domain" subject, i.e., masturbation).

In the credits, which went by very fast, they listed a "Rachel Sweet" in a supporting role. I didn't catch which part she played.

What I want to know is, is this the same Rachel Sweet, the singer, who recorded the great album "Fool Around" on Stiff Records back in 1978 and also recorded the theme song to the John Waters film "Hairspray" back in 1988?

If it is, how did she get this bit part in Seinfeld? What other acting roles has she had? Why hasn't she released any new music in a decade?

Yep that was the same very talented Miss Sweet, she played George's cousin Shelley in the hospital scene with George, George's mom, and a female patient getting that infamous sponge bath! Her credits in recent years have included her own show on The Comedy Channel (now Comedy Central), appearances in the movies "Sing" and the Bette Midler TV flick "Gyspy", more soundtrack work in John Waters' "Crybaby", writting and performing the "Clarissa Explains It All" theme song and later co-producing and writing the "Clarissa And The Strightjackets" CD featuring Melissa Joan Hart, and starring on stage in "Theda Bara And The Frontier Rabbi" in Chicago. Yep, Todd is right. SHe is the same Rachel Sweet. I work with TV writers and have read some of Rachel's material -- it's very good. I can't remember which show she is curently working on (Single Guy maybe?), but Todd's right again when he says she's very nice. Funny though. I've seen "The Contest" a zillion times and I never realized that was Rachel until the rerun the other day. I was watching and said "Hey, I know her...." and checked the credits just to make sure since she looke ddifferent from the last time I saw her about a year ago.
