Also seen in the 'JFK' episode with Hernandez was the ball player who actually did the spitting. My memory may be cloudy, but I think it was Roger Clemens. Who ever it was hid behind a bush, perhaps with another ball player.

I believe it was Roger McDowell who was the real spitter. Kramer and Newman had been mouthing off at him in the bullpen throughout the whole game.

Yup, it was McDowell. Of course this year, McDowell pitched for the Baltimore Orioles, and thus was a teammate of Roberto Alomar. I figure it must have been McDowell's influence that led Robbie to spit in (umpire) John Hirshbeck's face...

Roger McDowell. Clemens never played for or against the Mets. (At least not in Shea Stadium, I think, they could've played Grapefruit League games against each other.) McDowell played for the Mets.

Clemens pitched in the 1986 World Series in Shea stadium, but McDowell was the player.

Yes he did - 1986 World Series. The spit took place in 1987 and was launched by McDowell.

It was Roger McDowell... but Roger Clemens DID play against the Mets, and in Shea Stadium too, at least once- Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, as we Red Sox fans shudder to remember...
