Does anyone remember--was the musical that Bette was staring in in "The Understudy" the same as the movie that Jerry and co. wanted to see several seasons earlier? If I recall, that movie was rather, uh, risque. If this is the case, isn't it interesting that a woman like Bette would star in such a musical (perhaps they toned it down)???

I'm pretty sure she was Rochelle in the play, as that sounded like the main character which she was said to be playing. Also, not only did they see it before, but I think that the video has been mentioned before in the video store...

As for Bette Midler starring in it, I guess you're not overly familiar with her club acts/shows from her earlier days. They were/are well known for their risque content.
All the same, I sort of doubt Bette was playing "Rochelle"--I thought she was supposed to be a younger woman, at least the movie poster had a picture of a young woman playing Rochelle.
