Don't do it. It will ruin all the comedy when you do see it.

Okay, Okay, I know I'm supposed to have memorized this, but I can't remember who won "The Contest". I remember that Kramer was the first one out (after seeing that naked lady out of Jerry's window), and that Elaine also lost. So, that leaves George and Jerry. Who won?

George won the contest. They do not reveal who won in that episode, but in "The Puffy Shirt" when George becomes a hand model, he tells the photographer that he won the contest. I cannot do justice the exchange between George and the photographer, so check out the episode, its one of the all time best episodes.

knows!"--Kramer

Just because George claims to have won "The Contest" in a later episode doesn't necessarily mean that's what happened. George is proud of living a life of lies.

OK. . . now I am going to ask a very humble question - remember, I started watching Seinfeld just 4 months ago - what was the Contest about????? And please, if anyone knows when it will be shown again, post it, please.

Dolores, yes D*o*l*o*r*e*s!

Actually, as i recall, Elaine won the contest and they were all bitter cuase she's a chick. How about the episode where George got caight "Treating his body like a circus" by his mother, while looking at Cosmopolitan. A Classic Doug On Thu, 25 Jan 1996, Rita Zobayan wrote:

George won the contest. He even mentions is in "The Puffy Shirt" when he was told that the person he was replacing as a "hand" model took to masturbation.

Elaine lost after she was overcome with a male in exercising in front of her at the health club.

As an FYI, I also lost.

George definately won the contest......When he becomes a hand model he tells his employer that he won and he wouldn't let his hands control him (Or something like that). The others lost in this order:

1. Kramer - he went out first after seeing the naked lady across the street.

2. Elaine - She lost after seeing John Kennedy Junior at the aerobics class

3. Jerry - He lost after telling the virgin about the contest. She left his apartment and he just shrugged his shoulders and went to look out his window at the naked lady across the street.

  • George - He WON! Although we are not told directly in that episode.

Actually, he was reading a "Glamour" magazine. And his mother found him treating his body "like an amusement park."

This is my favorite quote from Estelle.

They didn't say. At the end, all were sleeping well and therefore were all out of the contest. Maybe they did a circle jerk.......

In a later episode, George says "I won a contest". The reason the writers had him say this:

It fit the situation. He was going to be a hand model, and they wrote a joke that the last guy ruined his hand this way. They probably used THAT simply to set up George's line.

The writers are in the business of writing jokes.... making humor out of SITUATIONS. I seriously doubt if they are trying to tie every loose end together over the life of the show....

Movies (and I suppose many tv shows) have someone who takes care of continuity. When shooting a scene, they remember how much wine was in the glass, who and what sat where, etc. They also keep track of other things like who has siblings, etc. All of these little inconsistencies that we grumble and argue about are just things this person missed (or the writers missed if they don't have a continuity person).

Note to all Seinfeld watchers......

This is NOT a real universe, the stuff we see didn't really happen.

It wasn't resolved. At the end, ALL were sleeping soundly. George later claimed he won....

It was resolved-- in the hand model episode, George reassured his employer that he would not abuse his hands because he had won a contest.

Has "The Contest" been on in syndication yet?

George.

Then, when George is hired as a "hand model", someone describes a past "hand model", who ruined his hands. This guy loved them so much he masturbated constantly. The person says they hope George won't have that problem. His reply?

Actually now that I think about it George could in fact be lying. However I've read in an article on the show that they got so much mail on who won (which they admitted they didn't know and left the question open at the end of the season), that they were going to slip an answer in a future episode. This article came out way before the puffy shirt episode ever aired.

George was trying to impress someone to get a job. Cripes, he's the biggest liar on TV. Are you going to claim that he really was a marine biologist, architect, etc?

Just because George says something doesn't make it so. Go back to the original episode and watch it.

How can George be lying to impress someone when that someone has no idea what he is talking about?

George was not trying to impress him, and he was not lying. More than anything, he was chuckling to himself.

Your logic is absurd. George lies; therefore, everything George says is a lie. Does that go for all of us or just George?

[email] (Darwin Teague) wrote:

Now why would George lie by making a reference to something that the other guy knows nothing about. George might be the biggest liar on television, but there was no reason for him to lie in that situation. George already had the job, he was guarantted other jobs, and the other guy wouldn't know what the contest was anyway. The only logical solution, is that George did when the contest.

Well, believe what you want.

The facts are clear. Jerry and George were the last 2 in, and George later claimed to have won. If you choose to consider that as proof that George won, well bully for you.
