Most people don't mention it because I guess it's not considred a "classic episode". It doesn't even fit the ususal Seinfeld format.

I also think the concept behind this one was alot more risque and taboo than "The Contest". The idea that men are ruled by their penises is fairly common in our society, but one rarely sees it portrayed as blatantly on network tv as this. Masturbation bah! The big head vs little head conflict wins in my book.

Not to denounce the brain v. penis chess game, because that was wacky, zany, funny stuff, but you act as if masturbation is portrayed all the time on TV. Maybe there are occasional gags on SNL or Married With Children, but "The Contest" was groundbreaking. "My mother caught me." Brilliant! And with Glamour Magazine, no less. Not only did all four characters become non-masters of their domain, but there was a good related story about voyeurism. Throw in Marla the virgin and you have a brutally honest exploration of lust.

I recall a Saturday Night Live skit from 17 or so years ago, with Walter Matthau, called "The Bad News Bees" in which The Bad News Bears were parodied by the show's ubiquitous killer bees. At one point, after the lights went out one bee's bed started squeaking, and he was caught "buzzing off" to a copy of Playbee. They then had a discussion with the coach about great past ballplayers who also "buzzed off". So for groundbreaking, Seinfeld was a mere 15 years later. Hell, these days even Rosanne's had a masturbation episode.

And there was also an SNL episode several years ago that was hosted by Joe Montana. The skit had Montana as someone's roommate, and he had just walked in on the guy during a "date" at their apartment. The catch in the skit was that the actors would say rather innoccuous lines, but then in voiceovers you could hear what they are really thinking.

For example, the girl who was the date would say "Oh, no, we don't mind your coming home this early at all . . ." but the voiceover of her thoughts would be something along "You jerk, we were just about to do it!"

Finally, Montana, going up the stairs to his room, says, "Oh, that's alright, I'll just be up in my room masturbating." and the voiceover of his thoughts was "Oh, that's alright, I'll just be up in my room masturbating."

I also thought it was funny-- but since no one seems to mention here--or anywhere else for that matter, I didn't think it was a "classic".

Hey, any episode where you get to see Jerry dressed up as a penis should automatically be considered a classic.
