The Contest: Who Won?

I was watching the syndication episode from last night, and was wondering, who won "the contest"? Were the writers implying that Jerry caved in and George was the winner? Somebody, help me out!

The answer to who won the contest comes in the "Puffy Shirt" episode where George admits that he won.

It was never established who won. George "claimed" he won, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been a tie with Jerry.

The contest still has not been decided.  At the end of
"The Contest", both George and Jerry are seen sleeping
soundly.  In keeping with the theme of the episode, only
those who had caved in were able to sleep without tossing
and turning in bed.  Jerry?  No toss.  George?  No toss.
Thus, no winner.   Not yet.
The truth may come out by this Spring.

You got it...they were trying to imply that Jerry caved before George did. I thought it was obvious, but apparently it wasn't because we get this question quite a bit. But also, in another episode a few years later, George reassured his hand-model employer, "You don't have to worry about me. I won a contest."

Wouldn't we all like to be able to say that? :-)

Speaking about the contest episode (which, in my mind, has to be the best episode; it should be the episode people proffer as the ideal example of Seinfeld as opposed to the chinese restaurant episode), I've got a question concerning it.

Okay, the contest is to see who holds off from masturbating the longest. Now, in one scene, I believe Jerry and George (or Jerry and Kramer; I haven't seen this in awhile, so please forgive any minor inaccuracies) are talking about the contest and the fact that Jerry is getting ready to sleep with the virgin (the very cute Jane Leeves, I believe, who is now on Frasier; I love that accent!). If Jerry slept with the virgin, wouldn't that mean he'd be out of the contest? After all, that would relieve enormous amounts of pressure, obviously. But I don't think anything was made of this in the episode; in fact, that could have been another source of comedy if George tried to get the virgin to sleep with Jerry via some devious scheme or other (you know what else would've been funny?; Newman should have been in the contest as well).

George winning doesn't mean Jerry didn't also win. They were both sleeping soundly at the very end of the episode and I assumed the just tied. If it was a tie, George could still claim he won, as he beat the other two competitors.

I realize this is an old thread, but I must comment.

Noone won the contest. In spite of the Puffy Shirt episode. If you read the issue of EW where they chronicle every episode of Seinfeld someone, I believe it was David, clarified the issue. He stated that most definatly noone won. So I would assume he knows what he is talking about.

Yeah, I am a it confused on who won the contest. Apparently, George won, but at the end of the episode, both Jerry and George are sleeping peacefully. I guess both went out at the same time, but i implied that only Jerry fessed up.

If the contest is who would cave the last..then George probably did win,,,,when they both saw the virgin in the end.....They were both at Jerry's house..right..? and therefor Jerry had..well, Home Turf so to speak...and since George had to get home...well. maybe he was the last...and maybe thats why he said he won..

On the other hand..its not a lie....if you believe it...
