Letterman on Seinfeld? Curious!

Didn't it seem odd to have David Letterman on the end-o-show tag instead of NBC's late nite pet, Jay Leno?

Not being a late nite kind of guy, am I unaware of any special friendship between Dave and Jerry?

It just kind of caught my eye.

Jerry is friends w/ Dave and Leno, but has said he thinks Dave is one of the best comedians today. I'm glad he picked Dave instead of Jay Lamo for the cameo. Plus, it's been said that a spot on Letterman's show gets you more expsoure than ten appearances on Leno (I think it was TV Guide that said that....), so it figures that they would use Dave.

Letterman, IMO, kicks Leno's ass as far as humor goes. I watch Letterman one night a week (Fridays) because I get up for work early during the week. But even though I only see 4 out of the 20 shows in a month every one of these are GREAT! I wish I could watch Dave every nite... Leno tries too hard to be funny and he's only higher in the ratings because he got all of Johnny Carson's audience and the older you are the more you'll like Leno - you don't have to think too hard either! I've watched Letterman since he was on during the day - anybody remember????

Ratings are based on number of viewership not quality. Jay's show is on earlier and available to most people. I used to watch Letterman habitually a few years ago while I was in college, now having to get up early for work it just doesn't fit my lifestyle. Letterman is a much funnier man and they both know it.

I used to watch Letterman religiously 10 years ago. (God, I'm getting old) I think he was a lot funnier then. Leno isn't a lot better. If any. But he has improved noticeably in comparison to how he was at first. He was actaully uncomfortable to watch before. He's passable now. (Anybody remember how uncomfortable it was to watch Chevy Chase?)

The major difeerence in their audiences is age. Leno gets an older crowd. I wouldn't call it "old", just older, while Letterman has a younger audience.

More conventional wisdom: The younger audience is supposed to be more valuable than the older one, personally I think that is flawed, but I could be persuaded otherwise.

Overall, today's lineup of latenight is so-so, imo. I miss the Johnny Carson at 11:30 and Letterman at 12:30 line up. That was great. Many of you probably think Carson was an old fart whose time had passed, but even as a teen, I found him very entertaining.

Leno is like the Gerald Ford of Late Night..... he kind of inherited the position along with the audience...
