Script bug in "The Contest"?

I rewatched "The Contest" recently and found something I had not noticed before:

" GEORGE: (Not really wanting to embellish) ..I stopped by the house to drop the car off, and I went inside for a few minutes.. Nobody was there - they're supposed to be working. (Jerry and Elaine look at each other - enjoying the story) My mother had a Glamour magazine, I started leafing through it.. "

"Supposed to be working"? I didn't think his parents had jobs. I thought they were retired.

Later in the episode:

" ESTELLE: I don't understand you. I really don't. You have nothing better to do at three o' clock in the afternoon? I go out for a quart of milk, I come home, and find my son treating his body like it was an amusement park! "

Here Estelle states she was out shopping, not working.

SO...why do you fellow Seinfeldians think George said "supposed to be working"?

Did Jason Alexander say something not in the script? Did the authors write it on purpose? Are there other indications in the series that George's parents have jobs?

P.S. Mike, I found a bug in the script on your otherwise great site: the line above has Elaine's name on it in script on your web site. Of course it's Estelle who says the line. Great that you have all the scripts on your site now!

here's my take: we do know that Frank works. Whether it's selling computers from the garage or volunteer work for the handicapped. I think that maybe Estelle was not speaking literally about the said event. Perhaps she has a volunteer job as well.
