That was very tacky of him, yes. Of course, 'Ma' skipped lunch and dinner. You're right-- George has his priorities...he could care less whether Ma is starving at the golden moment of 6:30.
In fact the whole family is pretty tacky I would say. (George's loyalty where women are concerned is insubstantial, to say the least.) And how about that cousin, what was her name, Estella? It was like night and day compared to the two women behind the screen...it's no wonder George was 'speechlessly' entranced. Both Estella's and the mom's voices were so screechy and shrill.
I loved the way George would imitate his mom's voice in the restaurant opening scene...'George....how could you?' or 'My back...my back!' with that wincing look. -Pamela Cho-
