An article in Monday's NY Times (the national edition, at least) reports that 9 of 10 advertisers dropped out of the "masturbation" episode before it's showing, but that within two hours they filled all of the advertising space with new advertisers. In the end NBC even made money on the deal because one of the advertisers paid more for their time, and the advertisers also gained because that episode had the highest rating of the season - they got more "bang" for their buck (I couldn't resist). Also, NBC recorded only 31 calls of protest the day after the episode, a figure they regarded as inconsequential. All of this suggests that the Seinfeld show will have no problem with controversial issues, which I think is all to the good.
