Songs that B&B "cover"

One of the things that I consider to be the coolest thing about Beavis & Butthead is listening to the variety of songs they "air/voice guitar". I especially love how they cover "Electric Funeral" by Black Sabbath. I also loved their voice over the power portion of "Over the Hills and Far Away by Led Zeppelin.

One of the "censorship" things I have noticed from the show is that in the episode where they show "Living on the Edge" by Aerosmith (I believe this is the one where Daria proves that stupidity is both a product of heredity and environment. The first time I saw this, I SWEAR the dialogue went something like this.

BEAVIS: Where's his penis? BUTT-HEAD: In his hand where it always is. BOTH: HUH, HUH, HUH, HUH

Every time since that I've seen this episode, this dialogue doesn't seem to be in the episode. Anybody else notice this or any other selective deletion?

yeah..noticed that, and someother voice-over changes...for the life of me i can't remember an example...i have also noticed MTV censoring a lot of things...in Dr. Dre vids for instance...some words are mangled, and the familiar smudged spot on people. Watching the same vid on BET, you get to hear the words and see that the smudged stuff is actually a pot leaf.

Is MTV, like, wimping out or something? that would suck

They also fuzz out someone sticking up their middle finger. They do this on Aerosmith's "Cryin'" video, which they seem to show about 100 times a day. Maybe B&B should watch this video "He's cryin because this video sucks" ;^)

This might have also been a reference to an old play about Plato. I'll have to ask my roommate, he's really into philosophy. As I recall though, he had some achient play referring to Plato (I think..may have been Socrates) who was talking about "Holding his dick in his hand." Anyone else find any hidden themes in B&B?

What's really intriguing to me about this little clip was that as Led Zeppelin's "Over the Hills..." begins, Beavis at first reacts with disdain, something like "oh no, this sounds like folk music, change it!". Butthead advises him that the song will become cool (i.e. contain a power rock riff that they can remember, and voice out later). It's strange that Beavis needs to be reminded of how a classic Zep tune goes when both of them already do the voice/guitar riff for the opening of Zep's "Heartbreaker" quite frequently. I'd hate to think that Beavis is an underachiever in the school of classic rock as well.

Unfortunately, Mtv has *been* doing this for about the last half year (perhaps longer). Marijuana leaves are smudged, guns are smeared, even logos on t-shirts are subject to the old electronic blur (incredibly evident on The Real World, where a t-shirt saying nothing but the word "Converse" finds itself attacked by the hand of Mtv for an entire half hour).

I'm not sure what happened in the offices of Mtv, but the very people who fought for artistic expression are now crushing it under their shoes like a spent cigarette. So, Mtv has upped its censorship while the networks are showing nudity (i.e. NYPD Blue).

Because of Mtv, I may never see "Frog Baseball" again. :)

MTV does suck. Where have you been?
