Mike Judge interview by Chip Brown of the Associated Press

Here are some highlights and excerpts from this recent interview in the March 21, 1996 edition of my local paper:

* Beavis and Butt-head are often sitting on a sofa, picking their noses, discussing snot and flatulence and brainlessly critiquing rock music videos.

* They consistently miss the points of lessons taught in school and take pleasure in playing pranks, although they are more geeks than bullies.

* Judge says the show is comedy --- PG-13 entertainment and that it's become MTV's most successful series.

* Later this year Beavis and Butt-head will take their slouching to the big screen in "Beavis and Butt-head Do America." They finally will be leaving their hometown. Judge says, "You are going to see them in some spectacular places. There are going to be some surprise cameos. Basically, they are going to be embarrassing America on the big screen."

* Judge says the show isn't for everyone and acknowledges that is two young kids (4 and 1-1/2 years old) and his mother don't watch the show.

* Judge has a new deal that will have him devising TV and movie projects for the Fox Network when his contract at MTV is up in two more seasons.

* Judge was devastated by the accusations of his show being blamed for the cause of the handful of fires set by yourths, including the trailer park one where a 5-year-old Ohio boy killed his 2-year-old sister. He defended his uses of fire in the show, which always has been preceded by a disclaimer. "That was awful. If someone is accusing your show of causing the death of a child, what can you say? It's horrible." But Judge says he looked inot the Ohio incident after initial news reports and has concluded the show was accused wrongly. "What never came out was that the kids in Ohio were left alone in the house and that the mother didn't get cable," says Judge. Judge said he was disappointed when MTV moved to strink the fire references so quickly. "That was kind of admitting that the show had something to do with the fire in Ohio, and I don't think it had anything to do with it."

So there you have it everyone! Even Mike Judge knows the truth about the Ohio incident and how MTV and Viacom are nothing but a bunch of wussies.

One place I would love to see them go to is Vegas. Can you just imagine it? Money, gambling, showgirls, hookers, those pamphlets they hand out on the Strip with half naked chicks in them, booze, lights, etc. They can have a heydey with that city.

Awesome!! I am sure that Fox will allow more latitude than he has with MTV. However, I wonder what a "season" means? There have never been any real defined seasons in the show. I hope it doesn't translate to two more years.

This is really interesting. I have never heard his side of the story on this ridiculous incident. I am surprised that he slams MTV on what they did as well. This is going into the FAQ!

Well, he does refer to it as PG-13 entertainment, so that is fine with me on a movie rating. :D

I think it will be till the end of 1997 (or the summer of 1997 since that is when contracts usually end at).
