You better punch out the no-record tabs on your Beavis-n-Butt-head videotapes now, because the show will never be the same after what I just heard on the news tonight. I'm sorry, but saying "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!" is the main reason for Beavis' animated existence. That's his most famous line, everybody knows that. After only a year-and-a-half or so, and the ultra-conservative parents who don't want to think for a minute that the show is all in good jest and that they can trust their kids won't do things B and B do as long as they don't encourage it themselves (like leaving matches lying around to a 5 year-old in a trailer! Geez!) are exerting their force and MTV is wimping out on us, very uncharacteristically so I would think. Don't MTV execs realize that prohibiting references to fire is the first step in what will eventually be the quick end to Beavis and Butt-head? I hope I'm wrong about this - but I don't think I am. I'm willing to bet that Beavis-and-Butthead will not make it into another season. And the rest of this season looks bleak folks. I know I'm gonna have a nightmare tonight. Remember that Simpsons episode when Marge led a crusade against cartoon violence and the result was itchy and scratchy serving tea to each other and then hearts filled the screen? AAUGH! Well, it's gonna be Beavis and Butt-head, in my dreams, saying something like this:

BH: Hey Beavis, these guys are from that country - where their voices have those cool accents. Beav: Yeah, huh, huh. Their voices are like. um, um, heh, heh, sophisticated. BH: Yeah, being sophisticated is cool.

Or this ...

Beavis: Hey Butt-head. Where is Seattle? BH: Uh, huh, huh, it's this place where all that music *stinks*. It's like, uh, too loud. Beavis: Yeah, um, um, too loud for my ears. BH: Yeah. (Changes channel to an orchestra playing Beethoven). Whoa! Yes! Beethoven's ninth symphony. Huh, huh. Now this is cool. Beavis: Um. heh, heh. Yeah. They should play this stuff all the time...

AAAAAAUGH!!!!!!

Hopefully, Mike Judge will take B&B away from MTV (watching their ratings drop! :) and give it to another network who has the balls to show it unedited.

This would be pretty cool - uh, huh huh - maybe to Comedy Central or something. (Or does MTV own comedy central?). But I wonder - would this be legally possible? After all, it is "_MTV's_ Beavis -n- Butt-head" - look at the logo. Is the show contractually obligated to MTV or something, especially since the show got its start from Liquid Television, another MTV show.

Just curious.

Uh, I saw "Frog Baseball" at a Sick&Twisted Animation festival a long time ago (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was before Liquid TV existed).

Judge may have a contract with MTV now, I just don't think the show "got its start" from Liquid TV.

and can do whatever he wants with them. I hope he moves them. The only 2 reasons I ever watch MTV is for BnB and for Headbangers Ball. Which even now is going Top 40ish. Ugh.....

This is not entirely true.

In an article in the New York Times, (October 17, section H, page 33), we read the following:

"The success of the show ha certainly changed Mr. Judge's circumstances, though he insists the change is not quite so dramatic as people have made out because he had to sell MTV the rights to the characters."

Also:

"MTV has already ordered up 130 more episodes for 1994, although some of the old adventures will be recycled in the new episodes."

Does anyone know if Mike Judge has rights to B&B? I would guess that MTV has some kind of ownership. I don't think that Matt Groenig could pull the Simpsons off of Fox if he didn't want it on their network anymore.
