For those who may not know, I've been reading and posting to this group off and on for almost four years. I've been here as [email] and [email]. And I just felt like saying, the group has gotten really odd.
Yes, I'm one of those old guys talking about what things was like back in my day. I remember the good old days of C.E. Forman's great FanFic, the debate over the best line for each character, the anti-binary vigal, the sexual innuendos directed at CherylAnn, who seemed to revel in it. Some of the best and most classic Usenet I ever read came from here (One of my favorites : some guy posted some spam about a guy who's claim to fame was peeing on Madonna when she wasn't famous. A guy wrote back and replied "I'd like to try peeing on Madonna, that'd be something different." And another guy wrote back saying "You dumbass, Madonna would bite your weiner off.")
Now, I'm not saying the group has gone downhill, but it sure has changed. I am reminded of the changes on another group I read on a regular basis. Now, we have endless "They are gay" threads (Hey "Gay Cartoons 'R' Us" - give it a rest dude!! Do you see yourself posting that much about the colour of their eyes or their blood type?) And CherylAnn, my darling, say it's not so!! You actually think they're gay?
Ok, I'll stop before I start another stupid flame war. Maybe I'm taking this all too seriously. Perhaps if I'd been reading every day the changes would seem natural. It just seems like the group has lost the energy it had back in 93-95. I can remember laughing my head off every time I read this group back in those days, and now I rarely even smile. With B&B gone, the Internet is the only place to turn for cool stuff. Maybe B&B don't lend themselves to a typical fan base of conventions, Fanzines and clubs. But can't we at least spice up Usenet a bit? (I didn't receive one comment or follow-up to even my new FanFic posts. Did anyone even read them?)
