Where do they live?

One thing I just realized: in the episode where they say goodbye to the Japanese exchange student, they stand near him at the airport gate. Through the window you can see the hooded outline of a Boeing 747, or L-1011.

If Hiroshi (name of ex. student) were staying with them in a smaller town, he probably would have taken a connectio\ng flight from there to either Houston or DFW. With exception of Houston, Dallas, SA and Austin, no other Texas city airport has jets land of that size.

The other possibility, of course, would be that they rode with Hiro to DFW, Houston INternational, etc. from whatever outlying burg they were in. Yet that seems unlikely -- sending him off at the originating smaller airport would have been more practical. Plus, they don't drive yet. So that points to an area reasonably close, say an hour or two, from one of the big Texas airports. Would have to be either IAH or DFW, because those are the only ones with direct nonstops to Japan. They could have left from SA or Austin, and connected further west, like LAX, SFO, Portland or Seattle, but most domestic flights don't have planes of that size either. Verdict- they live in a small town, close to rural areas, but not too terribly far from either Houston or Dallas.

I fly a 747 out of Austin to go to either Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte or LaGuardia when I go home to Connecticut. Therefore you haven't narrowed it down. BTW, San Antonio is one of the 20 biggest cities in America. I would think they might have substantial air traffic as well.

They could be from outside of Texas. One Texas liscense plate doesn't make it Texas. I used to see a lot in connecticut. So, this hasn't been cut even to Texas. I think they're from way north of Dallas though. Like beyond Plano, maybe around that hell on earth, Denton.

In fact you can narrow it down beyond that - the only cities in Texas with service from these sorts of large widebodies are Houston and Dallas. There is NO scheduled widebody service out of El Paso, San Antonio or Austin.

That would be pretty cool if it were true, but a quick check of the flights from Austin to ANY of these places shows (not surprisingly) that there are no 747s flying this route.

See my above note about San Antonio.

If we look more closely at air service from Texas to the Far East, we find that the only non-stop air service is from Dallas - even Houston falls out of the running here. So, if they are from Texas (which I think they are), it seems more and more as if they are from Dallas.
