My understanding from the OS2 crowd is that he once moderated a newsgroup dealing with computer systems. He turned into a real control freak and got nailed constantly by flamers, and it freaked him out. Now he's obsessed with making everything "logical," and making sure that a topic never deviates from the thread title, no matter how absurd his argument gets. For example, he posts these "digests" where he cuts an pastes peoples' words, removes them from the context, and selectively comments on them so he can avoid actual addressing of any questions posed to him. He also follows them up with "analyses" which he obviously think put his "antagonists" in a bad light. He used to be ina Honolulu community concert band but obviously he's been thrown out. He's listed with the University of Honolulu's observatory (one of the Oahu campuses). It's eay to become a "Tholen antagonist" -- just question him and ask him about musoc, and try to deviate within a thread from the header. He takes it all personally as insult and "antagonism."

There are no Tholens in the streets of Tijuana. Just a lot of old guys with violins, trumets, guitars, accordians, and big double-basses, coming to your table as you try to drink your beer and eat your nachos, and they, like, bug you and stuff to pay them to play for you. And that sucks, because their guitars are out of tune, and a soon as the trumpet starts you can't hear the guitar dudes, but he wants money too.
(Imagine a Sonata for Trumpet and Double-bass alone. Weird.)
So, like, we took the bus into downtown TJ, to Revolution Avenue, and there's this place there called The Cave, and it rules! Got a big pair of dinosaurs up above the door. They'll give you Coronas 2 for the price of 1. And the salsa kicks ass! But these little kids are always begging from the street and trying to sell you shit, and that sucks! And Charlie drank 4 Margaritas and ate a big shrimp cocktail without barfing.
But then, on the bus back, there were four all backed up at the border because the Instigation and Nationalization Service was checking everyone out, because some terrorists or something tried to blow up a building. Yeah, they tried to blow up a bus once but burned their mouth on the tailpipe. So they made us wait and wait, and we waited an hour and a half just to get off that stupid bus. Chingao!
So like, we missed out train connection out of Sandy Eggo, and when we got back to Fumerton it was real late, and we took a taxi, and I'm going to send that fucker George-Smirky McChimpface an invoice for our taxi, because he and that "Dick" Chainy guy made us late! And I know it's them, because they have big fat pictures of their smirking faces in the office place there where they check to see if you're an American!
When I got up there they asked me a lot of stuff that I didn't know, like who was President, and where he lived, and a lot of stupid stuff like that, but the supervisor came over and said, "Look, Mexicans know who the President is, and what the capital is called. I like both coffee and nachos. But Bach already wrote a coffee cantata. A coffee cantata written by me would be different, sure, but how about a nachos cantata. I doubt I'd be tempted to write the sort of thing that Taco Bell would want to license, but it would be an opportunity to include the contrasting motifs "Nachos rule!" and "Tholen sucks", as a sort of mysterious bit which only folks from Usenet will understand.

It's about time someone said something cool. If they had nachos and this Tholen guy back when Bach wrote the coffee tune, Bach would have written 'Cantata No. 12 Weinen, Klagen, Tholen Sucks, Nachos Rule.' But they probably would have stoned Tholen back then, I heard they had anti-suck laws in the 18th century.

Village idiot would be a good role for any proposed Nachos Cantata.
In the Coffee Cantata, an irate Dad-dude is scolding his daughter for her filthy coffee habit. He keeps telling her he'll deny her this and that unless she gives up coffee, and she says she'll still drink it. Until he says he'll deny her a husband -- then she appears to relent -- but the chorus says that if the husband wants to get any, he'll let her have her coffee.
So imagine this -- a Nachos Cantata, brief outline.
Van Driessen: Boys, nachos are bad for you. They're full of fat and grease and cholesterol and empty calories, m-kay??
Butt-head: NACHOS RULE! Beavis: YEAH! YEAH! THEY RULE!
Buzzcut: I AM GOING TO WEAN YOU TURDS OFF THOSE NACHOS!
Butt-head: NACHOS RULE! Beavis: YEAH! YEAH! THEY RULE! And you suck, heh-heh-heh-heh! [Buzzcut whacks him] AAAHHHH! Heh-heh-heh! Butt-head: Cool!
McVicker: Uuuhhhhhhhhhhhh, boys, you have got to give up those Nachos! They're bad for you!
Butt-head: You're stupid. Nachos rule! Beavis: YEAH! YEAH! THEY RULE! And you suck too, heh-heh-heh-heh!
Maxi Marft Guiy: I am not going to sell you any more Nachos. If you want 'em you can just dig 'em outa the dumpter.
Butt-head: Cool! So like, maybe we'll find a chicken sandwich in there too. Beavis: Yeah, and a dead mouse maybe, heh-heh!
Todd: Hey dudes, Nachos do rule. You guys are all fucked up, man.
Butt-head: WHOA! What Todd said!
Todd: And these two girls suck, but they're right about Nachos. [He pulls out a pack of Nachos and starts munching] So you guys, you need to get with the program and eat Nachos. <munch munch>
Van Driessen: Hmmm, maybe if you used organic chips and low-cholesterol cheese... <munch?> Hmmmm! Why these are quite good! <munch>
McVicker: Aaaaaaaaahhhhnd, if you don't overdo them... <munch>
Maxi Mart Guy: Hmmm, and they are one of my most popular items... <ca-ching of cash register>
Buzzcut: NO MARINE WASTES HIS BODY BY EATING THAT SHIT.
McVicker: Awww, shut up, moron. You're fired! I'm tired of listening to your stupid Marine bullshit every day anyway! <munch munch munch>
Beavis: Whoa! This Cantata turned out to be pretty cool! Butt-head: I have seen the top of the mountain, Beavis. And there are Nachos there. And it is the coolest of the cool.
[All but Buzzcut munch Nachos, because they rule -- and Buzzcut sucks]
