They were called "Yaz" in the US, because there was already a group called Yazoo. Similarly, when Wham (with George Michael) released their first records in the US, they went by "Wham UK" because there was a soul group called Wham.
My reply: Didn't get around to replying at the time (that's what posting and Google is for!) but small correction-there was a RECORD LABEL at the time called Yazoo,not a group.:)
