bogart something?

Where does this come from? As in "Don't Bogart it dude?"

to "bogart" means to "hog out", presumably from the way Humphrey Bogart used to hold a cigarette for a long time without smoking it. The song "dont bogart that joint my friend, pass it over to me" (lat 60's, I believe), implies that to "bogart" is to hold on to for a long time. Don't know if that is the origin of "bogart" as a verb, but that's where I first heard of it....

The one I remember is when they get the job painting Mr. Anderson's house. The first thing they do is start snorting paint thinner (Bh first). B says "Don't bogart it dude". This has to be one my favorite lines because there is not a chance in hell Bh will snort a whole can of paint thinner and it is wonderfully anti-PC to suggest that it would be fun.

Well, I know which episodes it's in, but what does it mean is what I meant?

Besides that, Beavis and Butthead think that their hippy teacher is some sort of dork, and I doubt they know anything about some weed smoking hippy fest where the term originated.

Check it out-- to "bogart" something is to hog it, to use it selfishly. You often hear it used in connection with, uh, joints. When I heard this word on B&B I almost passed out laughing. --Andy--
