I just send the following text I created to a binary poster making sure to send a copy to the postmaster also so that he/she knows we don't appreciate this type of posting. Works well. =============================================== Please do *not* post binaries to the alt.tv.beavis-n-butthead newsgroup. Binaries belong in the alt.binaries.* heirarchy. Unfortunately, you are dealing with people who like Beavis and Butt-Head; and they will react like Beavis and Butt-Head would.
The reasons binaries should not be posted are:
1) Because sites set expire times that are very low for binaries groups and if a discussion group is being bombarded with binaries the system administrator will either lower the expire time for the discussion group or drop it (especially if the site doesn't carry binary newsgroups).
2) Many users of the aforementioned group (mainly the readers in the United Kingdom) have to pay for all their downloads (no such thing as a local call). Some of these users also use software where they cannot download headers before selecting which messages to download, meaning they have no choice but to download it. These same users are not able to switch software either, unfortunately.
3) The regular posters do not want binaries posted. This is a simple request. The thing to do is to post a message to the group saying that you have posted the binary to a certain binary group (alt.binaries.pictures.misc, alt.binaries.pictures.cartoons, alt.binaries.sounds.misc or alt.binaries.sounds.cartoons are good choices). Or say that you will UUencode it to them via e-mail.
