Posts disappearing?

How come posts disappear sometimes or don't appear on other machines? No I'm not an idiot forgetting to check the read ones. When I go to work I have totally different posts on this sight. What's up with that. And many of my post don't appear. How can I fill the world with my coolness if I can only reach some of the audience? And I made a commment about a post with a binary and it disapeared. What's up? Have you guys experienced this sort of thing before? I am sort of new to this newsgroup thing. (Yes I have all of the settings right- really)

they dont disappear butt-puppet.. a message once read wont show up in a mail reader set to read only new messages or ones with a new response. use a mark all unread option in each group if you have it

Or more likely, the intricate web of NNTP servers powering the entire usenet operation are all running different versions of different software and it is inevitable that occasionally on a non critical (unlike email) system like usenet, things will go pear shaped and messages will be lost. Happens a lot with Demon internet (UK so don't worry if you've never heard of it) 'coz their news servers are very much Fucked.

Also if you are receiving your news from an "upstream" site, you are kinda dependant on them too. One of our big problems I feel (heh, heh, I feel)

Yes! I noticed that in some other newsgroups. I see everyone talking anout a post that I never got! It's really weird!

Someone told me that it is because I have my setting to only allow like thirty messages at a time, but this is not the case. Beside I would have noticed this when I was looking at the porn sites. Er... I mean... I uh... when I first got here I had hundreds of messages showing. If I say show all messages I get several hundred to appear but it is a different set than I get at work (to some degree) - both using netscape but different servers.
