Mike Judge

Hi, I'd like to know alittle more about the man who created BnB as well as cocreated King of the Hill. Does anyone know if a biography of him exists either in print or on the net? I know next to nothing about the man (except possibly through his cartoons). If I were to guess he seems kind of rightwinged (er, at least KOTH gives that impression, but it could just be the writers) and satirical, or something...

Probably, Texas and most of the Midwest. Based on the info I got from the site that Gary M. gave me (thanks Gary, you were very helpful) I don't think he's too rightwinged, but I couldn't really tell since they didn't really ask him about politics (well, at least in the interviews I read with him). KOTH though definitly seems pretty rightwinged (however I'm not sure if it's Judge's influence that makes it that way). Remember the lawyers line in one episode that went something like "It's ok to admit that you used drugs, our president did" and Hank responded something like "Maybe your president did but I voted for Bob Dole and he didn't take any drugs except pain killers and he earned those" and of course when he and Peggy yelled at Bobby for saying "same sex relationship" in one episode. This show could be just satirizing rightwing Texans (like All In The Family satirized rightwingers with Archie Bunker), but they aren't shown in a bad light like Archie Bunker (the PC guest characters seem to be the ones who are shown in a somewhat negative manner). Again all this may not be because of Judge or Judge's pollitical views (it may be Greg Daniels) and what's important is that it's funny. Beavis and Butthead seems pretty apolitical.

You are correct, sir. There's nothing right-wing about KOTH except in a satirical sense. But I suspect this Texas humor is why Hank is moving to LA in the upcoming season's episodes. I mean, I find the Texas stuff funny, having lived there for years, but I was wondering if the rest of the country was getting the humor. (I lived in New York for years too, and evidently the rest of the country "gets" Seinfeld, so I thought maybe KOTH also had that universal appeal. Evidently not.)

I think Mike is somewhat of a libertarian -- in KOTH, he's kinda holding up a slightly twisted mirror to stereotypical Texans, but he also doesn't dig the increasing "nanny state" PC politics we have to suffer through these days. Like in the episode with the VanDriessen-esque Child Welfare Worker ("Stick Boy"). Also like in the episode about his colon, when he's down at the health food place. It's so obviously Whole Foods in Austin with these dragged-out hippie-wannabe Xers that work there.

Somehow, I think if all this "Big Tobacco, Our Evil Empire" bullshit were going on at the time that Mike & Greg wrote the episode about Bobby smoking, Hank would be encouraging Bobby to light up and damn those busybody Fed bastards.

LOL, yeah, I think this theory makes the most sense. Judge probably is a libertarian. In Beavis and Butthead Judge takes jabs at everybody from hippies to the army to Christian buisnessmen, etc. The show is a very funny satire on society in general, w/o drifting to the left or right politically in its satire (they satirize everyone).
