Help with beavis wavs

I have never been able to get the sound at beavis.cba.uiuc.edu to work on my mac. What do you need to decode them? The gifs are cool 'cause you don't even need to decode them.

But what about the sounds?

If the were from ftp then they are not encoded. They probably need to be unzipped and put into a directory htat has the sound hardware (ie-sb16\samples) or whatever. Hope it helps. If you need more info, email me.

It's like they're made for IBM PC compatibles or something. You need one of the "multimedia" programs that can playback wav- files.

Perhaps they can be converted to Mac format? I don't know.

Well I have had some success downloading the sounds. About half of the cornholio sounds worked with no decoding whatsoever. All of the files say "wave format" at the top or something, but for some reason half of those are encoded somehow, perhaps just another sound file format as mentioned above. But anyway, playing the encoded sounds is cool 'cause it sounds like messages from Lord Satan. The sounds of the encoded files defitely sound close to intelligible but they are full of static and low mumblings. I'm just wondering why all of them say they are of the same type but they're really not.

It's been a while since I've downloaded sounds from that site--now I just record the sounds myself--but I seem to remember that I did have a problem with some of them. It said something like not a type 1 wav file. I think I did get them to work using another program, though. But really the best thing to do is just record the sounds you want yourself, assuming, of course, you have the episode you need taped and a cable from the vcr to the mac. I've change my system beep to alternate between "You're stupid" and "Kick me in jimmy!" (asynchronously thank goodness, it'd be too annoying otherwise), and I've been trying to think of some other quotes that would make good system beeps.
