Plot for New B&B Movie

I would like to open a discussion of the new Beavis and Butthead movie, and some possible plots and/or themes it might explore - as if our opinions make any difference. In any case, the new movie is already in production so the discussion is pointless. But I have way too much time on my my hands, and I figure a lot of you do, too.

Anyway, I was thinking that it would be good for the new movie to take place within the domain of Highland, and this time around include all the regular characters. Since the TV show is no longer being produced, this would not be redundant, and since B&B have proved themselves a profitable big-screen attraction, Mike Judge and Co. need not worry that our heroes require a flashy, gimmicky plot and exotic (for B&B) settings to hold the audience's attention. Sometimes too much of this can work against the characters (anyone remember the Bob & Doug McKenzie movie, "Strange Brew"?). Judge has said that one of his influences in the creation of B&B were Cheech & Chong, who I'm sure most fans would agree were at their best when just messing around in their own element. Their popularity waned as the impact of the characters was diluted by an excess of 'story'. One look at "The Corsican Brothers" will prove that.

The thrust (heh-heh) of this argument is that B&B are fascinating in their utter simplicity, and that it would be a mistake to underestimate just how interesting and funny they are to the viewer. While I liked "Do America", and recognized the need for a structured plot, I felt that it detracted somewhat from the appeal of B&B, and that too much time was spent on new and not particularly funny characters (the FBI guys, etc) who existed mainly to advance the story.

Part of the joke with B&B is the repetition in their lives, and the mundanity of the situations they walk into. This is what makes it so acutely funny when they mess everything up for everyone else, while they are both indestructable and idiotically happy throughout. They can take any circumstance, however dull and unremarkable, and turn it into a fucking disaster. And while they are peacefully unaware of the destruction they bring to other's lives, they are content and self-assured in their own moron's paradise.

So, like, I think they should stay in Highland this time around. And I gotta go cuz I got wood.

I do agree that it would be good for the next movie to take place in Highland. In Do America, I did think that it detracted from the movie that there wasn't much involvement from the regular characters. Actually some of the funniest scenes in the movie were the ones that did involve the regulars (the scene with McDicker in the motel, and the scenes with the boys messing with Anderson's camper for instance).

For a full length (uh huh huh) movie, though, there has to be a structured plot. I'm doubtful you could make a great movie and sustain audience interest for an hour and a half with just them bumbling through ordinary everyday situations. The B&B TV episodes are funny, for all the reasons you said, butt there's a reason why the episodes are only 15 minutes long--7 minutes when you cut out commercials and videos.

The thing I like most about the show is that it's satire on the stupidity of pop culture--hanging out at Maxi-mart, liberal teachers, daytime talk shows, Burger World, phone sex lines, etc.--all shown to us through the eyes of these two morons. I don't really have any ideas for what the movie plot should be, butt I hope they include more of the kind of satire they did in the TV show and I bet you could make good movie that way.

During the scene where ppl are looting the stores, there's a brief two second glim,pse of McDicker running past, with a stolen inflatable doll under his arm... go check it out agian it rules.. :) I'd seen the show many times, but didn't notice that, but once I did, I almost peed my pants ;)

I like to see more characters in a B&B sequal. I wish Mr. Buzzcut was in the last one. He could've kicked those FBI jerks asses or something. Todd should've been it it too. I hope the next movie doesn't involve them "Doing Earth," that is, they comb the four coners of the globe in persuit of something that probably is stupid to begin with. McVicar's perverted pleasures should be expanded more. Perhaps the sequal would involve him being video taped with a dominatrx and is shown as a threat to the security of the school or something.

BTW, I'm a dumbass. I just figured out that Highland is in Texas. Saw the "Tornado" episode and saw the weather map with the Texas Gulf Coast on it. All this time I thought they were in Calif.
