Talk about suicide on a comedy newsgroup! wtf?!

But since everyone seems to be talking of suicide I might as well present a view of the whole thing from personal experience..

Suicide has always and will always be a cop out. Reasons: 1) because it shows a complete distrespect for all those who are left to deal with the death of a friend/child/lover/loved one (or some combination therein.. don't think about it too long..hehe) 2) because it is stating that although the person has friends and relatives who love them they don't regard that as important enough to not kill themselves for. 3) because they don't have the courage to seek help 4) because it is going to seriously mess someone else up.. either the person who has to find the suicider or the family or friends or anyone close. It leaves those people wondering what they did wrong, or what they didn't do when it is not their fault. and finally: 5) becasue this is a really shitty topic to have on a newsgroup about comedy!

Although there are situations in which depression is a major factor.. there are any number of pharmacuitical (or recreational for that matter) drugs which I'm sure would take the edge of the really bad times. As for chemical inbalances.. there's courses of medication which get them back to normal. There is also councilling, friends, family, strangers, hotlines or pets to talk to about what is the matter. Plus: Life is worth living! Like someone said.. the alternative to life is pretty dull.

anyhow.. feel free to flame at will.. But maybe we can have a bit more talk about southpark and less about some selfish person who decided to top themselves and leave their family and friends to wonder what they did wrong. My regrets to the loved ones involved in any case of suicide.

I can handle this one a bit. Over the past year or so, most of my friends have really kinda drifted away. One got a live in boyfriend, another is married with a kid, and one just is too busy. Would they really miss me? I have my doubts. As for family, if you're in the mindset to end it all, do you think this occurs to you? I've been suicidal a couple of times in my life and I never really thought about it. All I thought about was the fact that if it did work, no one would probably show up to the funeral.

Perhaps they don't think it WOULD help.

heh...no kidding. But I felt compelled to respond.

That's all I have to talk to...my dog...lol.

Not flaming, just stating it as I see it. As for councelling, people say I should talk to someone about my moods, but I refuse to talk to someone cause the councellors I saw in school told me nothing but bullshit.

Again, they just won't care if I die or not.

No amount of counselling will get me through this. Drugs will just hide my depression.

No, they just really won't care.

See my response to #3.

For a long time, you never could have convinced me that life was worth living. Nothing was going right, the stress was unbearable, and I KNEW that nobody would miss me if I disappeared from the Earth.

If someone wants to end their life, then that's their call.

Not yours, not their families, theirs.

It doesn't matter who they are, what illness they have (if any) the simple point is:

It is a FREE country where anyone can do what they like with their lives.

If going up to God is for them, that's their choice and not yours.

Depends where you live. And what time period you are in. Here in Canada, suicide is legal (although doctor assisted is not).

But here's a little something that ought to lighten the mood...in regards to "what time period", there was a time when attempted suicide was a crime punishable by death.

Hmmm....that doesn't make sense......you can kill yourself, but if your doctor helps you, then it's not legal. Kinda weird. Guess it's that whole notion that doctors should save lives, not help take them.

All doctors take an oath to "preserve life" at any cost. Seems to me the oath is a bit outdated. They didn't have life support machines that could keep brain dead people alive indefinitely back then. I think the oath aught to be amended to include 'quality of life' as a factor.

Me, I believe every person has the right to do whatever they want with
their own body; piercing, tatoos, abortion, suicide, whatever. But I
still think suicide is a coward's way out. Always will. Nothing will
change that.

Too bad you mom didn't abort you, then gotten another tatoo.

But I

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Jeez man- that's a really cruel thing to say.

So you think suicide is a good and heroic act?

I can see you're playing the fool, but I'll humor you with a response. My mother has no tatoos. As a member of the Jewish faith, she doesn't believe in permanently marking her skin, what with the Holocaust and all. And if she had chosen to abort me, it would have been her prerogative. If I was an 'accident' and she and my father were unable to provide me with the kind of life any newborn human deserves/requires, then I would have *absolutely* understood her decision.

Well, not actually but the paradox is irrelevant.

And your only response to an opinion you disagree with is profanity and personal insults.

Good job, "rAD". Everyone knows a little more about you now.

Actually, he was responding to what Dave wrote. But he was being rather rude, and I thank you for standing up for me like that :-)

You misattributed, Wolf. I'm no lady.

But your chivalry is commendable, even if you thought I was Toni.

Then again, this is not one of those times... I'm still a little toasty from lighting up with some friends earlier.

I'm a prick, but there's a certain amount of politeness one must put forth when dealing with the ladies.
