South Park -- downhill since the movie? <A frustrated fan>

I'm a big fan of South Park, but I've been really frustrated with it ever since "Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" came out two years ago.

Everything with the TV show has been screwed up since Matt and Trey did the movie. It seems like the new episodes just drip out at an excruciating, random pace. Every now and then we're treated to a squirt of 3 or 4 new episodes, and then it's back into rerun hell. It seems like M&T are hardly spending any time on South Park at all. I'd rather see more South Park episodes than one more minute of "That's My Bush".

Then, on the home front, what the heck is going on? Seasons 1 & 2 showed up on DVD. Then for season 3, they did two lame theme-packed DVDs (one for XMas, one for Chef) of episodes from season 3. But they didn't include every episode and didn't go in chronological order. It's been about a year and still no more from season 3, let alone season 4.

Are they just going to let South Park wither away? Is South Park pretty much over with?

It's hard to keep tuning in every Wednesday when all I can expect to see is 3 year old reruns that I've already watched 97 times.

Sure, we all wish for more new episodes, but I don't think the quality of the show suffered in the wake of the movie. I didn't start watching SP in a hardcore way (I mean that in every possible sense of the word) until last year, so I am seeing a lot of these season 3 and 4 episodes for the first time. IMO, Seasons 1 and 2 were great, but Seasons 3 and 4 were *astounding.* The satire is as sharp and wicked as anything I've ever seen. I think the period just after the movie was a real creative peak for them.

Wrong - That's my Bush is hilarious!

It's definitely targeting an older demographic than South Park though; you have to follow politics and old TV shows to get 3/4 of the jokes.

Trust me on this, though. There were some good episodes. The one in which he blows up an Austrian city with SDI and the one in which he trips out on ecstasy are hilarious.

I think they "jumped the shark" by their own admission in the "Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?" episodes.

Personally, I disliked season 3 except for the odd episode (Chinpoko Man & Mr Hankeys Christmas Classics)..... However, I thought season 4 was absolutely awesome! The longer they do the show, however, the more likely it is to taper off in quality....I would love some new eps, but also wouldn't mind if they ended it off on a high note!
