the reason why kenny didn't die . . .

News: 10/18/97: For those of you wondering why KENNY DIDN'T DIE in last night's episode, I may be able to provide some speculation. Bear in mind, this is not neccesarily the correct answer, but it very well may be. About a month ago, Taison Tan of A South Park Information Center heard Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the show's creators, speak at UCLA. Here is a sample of what I am talking about:

     Their initial intentions on Kenny was that they didn't want it to be known
so much that  Kenny would die every week.
     They were hoping that when people saw  the first show they would see Kenny
die. Then when they watched the
     second show they would see that he was back and that would maybe cause
people to think it was an old show and
     that Kenny wasn't going to die again, but then he does. But then they
would watch the next show and see Kenny
     back and think that maybe he wouldn't die, but then he really dies.
However, Comedy Central decided to pick up the
     idea of Kenny's death and it was just sent everywhere to all the press
releases and his death is now never a
     shock.  This also brought up the question if Matt and Trey ever saw the
promotional commercials for the show
     since some commercials revealed Kenny's death which some people would
rather wait and see.  Matt and Trey
     weren't happy about it either but it was not much they could do.

Now, since Matt and Trey are practically bigger than Jesus (happy birthday, by the way), they may be getting their way. You don't know if Kenny is going to live or die next episode, do you? You are going to tune in and see, waiting for something to fall on him or blow him up, aren't you? Pretty clever ploy. I like it this way. People will be guessing "Will Kenny live or die?" every episode. It will keep the whole death thing fresh. Let's hope I am correct in my assumption.

I loved this episode. I knew Kenny was going to live when Mr. Garrison had him unplug the christmas lights. Unfortunatly, someone who watched the show with me couldn't appreciate the situation. He was so pissed that Kenny didn't die, he may never watch the show again. So narrow minded. Some people just don't get it.

actually yes he was. They had just released him from the asylum and he joined the group at the end when they sang the mr hankie song.

I think one of the reasons Kenny didn't die was that Matt and Trey didn't want to back themselves into a hole. Home Improvement, for example, always had the Wilson-fence thing as a cheap gag. Then, they couldn't make him a major character, because he always had to have something in front of his face. In a year or two, when South Park will be an even better show, they might not want to have Kenny die EVERY episode. This early non-death just shows that Kenny doesn't have to die. And the episode was still great witout it! Kenny's death can't top the last one forever...
