THey have no more right to try and force the program off the air than I do to tie them in a chair and make them watch it. I'm not changing their ability to do something (not watch it). They are trying to change my ability to do something (watch ti). And therein lies the difference.

Their television has an off/off switch same as everyone else's. Just 'cause they don't know how to use it doesn't give them the right to affect what other people choose to watch.

Yes but protesting means to not watch the show not trying to tell everyone else what to do and to belive in what they say or they will get mad. If you dont like the show then dont watch it and dont let your kids watch it.. As for me i will do what and if i (and i do) let my kids watch it that is my choice!!!!!You see, I can let my kids watch the show because unlike you protesters out there i have kids who understand the diff. between right and wrong and i teach the that. IF YOU WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO TEACH YOUR KIDS, AND INSTILL MORALS IN THEM THEN YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE TV TEACHING THEM OTHERWISE.

"Killings in public schools" blamed on South Park? My gosh, chlorine bleach can harm children if they drink it; parents don't let them. Shootings happened because parents allowed guns to be available.

If you'd had my teachers in grammar school, it wouldn't be surprising that the kids are finally showing some initiative (ha ha).

The 12 Deaths of Kenny, or Why I Think South Park is OK

�Oh my god, they killed Kenny!� This phrase can be heard in the hallways of every school in America. What does it mean? Who is Kenny? Why has he been killed? Is he a bad person? Are he and his friends really that bad?

Kenny is one of four eight-year old boys (along with Eric, Stan, and Kyle) in a TV show aired on the cable station Comedy Central called South Park. Yes, Kenny is killed in each of the 13 episodes, with the exception of the Christmas episode where he was thankfully spared, but not before a run-in with a shark tank and a near electrocution. What am I talking about here? Is this for real?

Yes, South Park is for real. It is the highest rated show on cable TV today, with over 4.5 million people tuning in to witness the Christmas show. It has been called �not just the hottest cartoon but the hottest youth-cult phenomenon in the country� by Spin Magazine. Time Magazine has described it as �the latest giant asteroid to slam into American pop culture� and a show �which deserves our attention�. But, what is the continued uproar over this show? Just because 4 eight year old children have so far seen an alien abduction, where one of them experienced an anal probe, the attempted assassination of Kathy Lee Gifford, a town turned into zombies, the trials and tribulations of genetic cloning, dealing with a gay pet, and a pay-per-view fight between Satan and Jesus Christ, does this make South Park a bad thing? Is it fair to describe South Park as �next to such popular agents of murder and mayhem, the Devil doesn�t even stick out�? I say, not at all � keep it in the context with which it is presented. I say that South Park is not an overly violent show, and therefore deserving of television, because it portrays eight year old boys as they truly are, is meant to be absurd as to strike a nerve, and is just plain fun to watch!

As a former eight-year-old boy, I can honestly say that when you are eight, the coolest thing that you can do is curse! The next coolest thing is to be gross! Yes, it is important to be able to outgross your friends. This is nothing more than a rite of boyhood. You cannot change it, and do not deny it. Little boys can be mean, weird, and nasty.

Young boys will literally laugh at anything, and that is proved on this show. At times it seems more scatological then logical. I hate to break it to people, but yes, boys do laugh also at the misery of others. When someone falls down and scrapes his knee, or even worse, the first thing eight-year-old boys will do is laugh out loud at him. They will think nothing of laughing at someone who is tall, short, thin, fat, hairy, bald, dark, light, cute, ugly, religious, non-religious, poor � it doesn�t matter! Boys will laugh and tease their peers about anything. If you keep this in the back of your mind when viewing the show, it seems to make a bit more sense. As Time Magazine sums it all up, �The creators are not simply out to offend people, but are exploring the surreal terrors of childhood. The show would not be so funny, and its outrageous humor would not be shaded by such fear and poignancy, if it weren�t an imaginative recreation of an authentic experience.� Amen.

To say that this show is absurd is as understated as can be imagined. This is a show where Kathie Lee Gifford was almost assassinated, but was then was saved and then was able to spend the night with the school Chef. This of course after he sang a love song to her, where he proclaimed �Kathie Lee, you�re my sexual fantasy�. A world where Santa Claus and Jesus Christ fought over the true meaning of Christmas, but if that was not enough, Jesus got to fight a second match with Satan, which was of course on pay per view. A world where all of the gay pets in South Park had ran away to a mystical land overseen by Big Gay Al, a world where they could play and dance to disco songs, and not worry about being social outcasts by their owners. Only in South Park could elephants mate with pigs. This is a place where starving Ethiopians are substituted for watches as gifts for pledging money to Sally Struthers. And, as a finale, a world where the true purveyor of Christmas cheer, Mr. Hankey, can only be tastefully described as a stool specimen with a sailors hat, and a falsetto voice. What in the world is this? Is this truly a place that Spin Magazine refers to as �perversely, South Park may be one of the realest social worlds on TV�? Yes it is -- this is satire, folks. Comedy, the kind that makes you gut laugh, turn your head, roll over, and cry. Then again, it might make you turn your channel as quickly as humanly possible.

Don�t be alarmed, folks. While this show sounds insane (and it is), it is never shown before 10PM. It is the only regular series on television that carries the new TV-MA or Mature rating code (shows for mature audiences over 18), and can be blocked with the new V-chip. Yes, it is a cartoon. No, it is not for children. It is for adults, simply put. And, cartoons for adults are not such bad things. Remember that one of the biggest cartoons for adults ever was The Flintstones. This was a crazy show! A direct knock-off of one of the greatest TV shows of all time (The Honeymooners), full of inside jokes, and even at times a bit racy. Many young boys had the biggest crushes on Wilma and Betty. And, the show on February 22, 1963, where Pebbles was born, is still one of the highest rated shows of all times. So, yes, there is certainly a place for adult cartoons.

In closing, the other reason to watch South Park can be wrapped up easily � it is fun to watch! This has become the new �thing to do� � South Park viewing parties. It is a now a social event. No, it is not an educational experience. The odds are fairly good that you will not get smarter from watching it. Nor will you be considered a better person for watching it. Heck, people might even turn their nose up at you for watching it. And I say, let them. Life is too short to not have a little bit of harmless fun now and again. And, if people still want to harass you about this show, ask you why you would even bother watching this show, or go so far as to question your sanity or intelligence, remember what Mr. Garrison, the boy�s teacher, had to say about people who ask questions: �There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.�

Hey, here's an idea for those religious freaks. If you don't like south park, DON'T WATCH IT. And if your kids know about the show. I'd like to know where the hell you were when they started watching this ADULT ORIENTED program. Ever heard of getting involved in you child's life. Sounds like another bunch of over zelous fanatics trying to push their beliefs on others. Who the hell do they think they are to tell others what to watch.

The kicker to on their home page is right after their diatribe against the evils of South Park they go in to a frenzy about how THEY are being censored. Here's the text:

(Although I have to admit that the Aiwa commercial with "Another One Bites The Dust" is damned amusing!!)

The millions of children who go to school each day *without* killing their classmates is detrimental to our cause, however, so we won't mention them.

However, we don't know yet what to do about protecting our youth from neglectful parents who are expecting everyone else to raise their children for them. We're still working on shaping everyone else up, first.

1. Is Southpark immoral...oh hell yes. Thats a given, if this was 1950 there'd be no way in hell that show would be on the air.

2. Is this america? Yup, freedom of speech and all that. If that truly is the case, then it's the parent's decision on what his/her children watches, not the church.

3. Most interesting...If you look REAL closely, there is NO MENTION of the fact that Jesus is a supporting character. Hell, that was the FIRST thing that made me cringe when I started watching southpark, because you're taught in Church that He is the one thing that you shouldn't make fun of...but like everything else Matt and Trey does, I got over it. You would think a Religous group staging a protest would put that. I mean their little guidebook has the script transcription to Anal Probe. If I wanted to put SP out I'd use Spirit of Xmas anyday. Or The Mexican Staring Frog.

Basically, the whole point is if you're going to protest something, at least put a little more research into it. Not hearsay and rumors and what you saw as you were clipping channels because Benny Hinn was busy recombing his hair.

I know I am late on this but.... South Park Immoral....BIGGEST BUNCH OF BS!!!!! That show has better morals that BARNEY! Lets take the Damien episode. Everyone went back on Jesus for Satan and what happened? THEY GOT SCREWED. It displayed that when you go for evil instead of good you get screwed EVERY TIME. How about The Death episode? The parents were all yelling about some show that they found wrong and immpropor for their children to watch, but they are doing exactly what every parent that wants south park off the air is doing, using TV as a babysitter. Maybe if instead of plopping your kid down infront of the TV you should either watch with him or not let him watch TV and make him do more creative things. So fine, it throws some cursing in there but please! What show doesn't? It's not immoral so do me a favor and SHUT UP! -me

A brief analysis of the headlines? It sounds to me that if that's the case, then the people sending violent, murderous messages are the newspaper editors. I must agree. I watched 3 stooges and daffy duck getting shot by hunters all my childhood (and feel extremely lucky I wasn't born later because before I knew it only edited versions were being broadcast) and I never once thought that hitting another person or shooting anyone would play a laugh track in the background and people would love me. People who think TV causes violence are every bit as bad as those religious fanatics who, seeing the sun move across the sky, came to the conclusion that the earth was the center of the universe. It doesn't work that way and it never will! If you want to lay the blame on anybody I'd have to go with the parents. These people might have been the nicest people in the world, but that quality never hit home in their child. Teach your children, teach yourself.
