Anyways how, in theory, would one post this to a newsgroup. I've seen large files split up into many postings, is there an app that automates this? What about a free web server?
Also, how in theory, would one do this anonymously?

Yet still perfectly watchable. My copy has a few bits missing, but I lose nothing as far as content and sound quality are concerned. Not bad for the wee fee of free, huh?

Sorry, I mistook you for the origional poster who sent a private email to insult me, sorry for the offence. Though my point that it's illegal isn't the only reason I object, many people set their nesreader up to download all the messages not just headers and the whole movie would be HUGE and many people would not like to have such a large download.

That I can understand, But if it's posted to alt.binaries.southpark, then your objection isn't so much to the posting of the movie, as to the *improper* posting of the movie.
That said, there are 2 main reasons why people are against this sort of bootlegging.
1. It's illegal. My own personal feeling is that, within the realm of essentially unpunishable illegal acts, moral/immoral or ethical/unethical comes waaaay ahead of legal/illegal when it comes to decision time. And since the lines between "right" and "wrong" are so blurred, it really comes down to the individual's own thoughts and feelings. Me, I have no problem with bootlegs. None whatsoever.
2. It takes money from the pockets of the creative minds behind the project. This I also object to. How many more millions of dollars need to pour into Parker and Stone's pockets before it's ok to take advantage of an offer like this? Besides, in a few months when the video is available, think how many copies and copies of copies and copies of copies of copies will be floating around out there.
Another issue, and one that you mentioned in your previous post, would be the quality, or lack of it, of the bootleg copy. But, as a viewer, if I'm not concerned with the quality of my copy, why would it matter to anyone but me? If I was selling copies and the buyers were led to assume the copy was of a high quality when it really wasn't, then quality would be an issue, but otherwise it's really not.
So. Having said all that, I'm now in the mood to watch the SouthPark movie again, so if you'll excuse me I'll be logging off and popping the CD in the drive.

OK, are we talking about the version filmed with a camcorder in the theater or the high quality one that has made it's way to quite a few places? (Check with your IT department's secret server, it may be there, along with about 100Gig of porn.)
I would use FreeAgent, or cough up the dough and get the full version of Agent. It's the best newsreader and a pretty good posting program too. (Yes, I know I reading through IE5.0, but only because Agent doesn't have a version for Solaris.) There are quite a few free web servers, but you need to have a pretty good connection if you want people to be downloading the movie from your computer. You are running WinNT, so set it up as an FTP server if you really want people to get it from you.
That's where it gets tricky. You best bet for this would be to get a throwaway account (free trial maybe) with an ISP with good newsfeeds, post it, and cancel the account. (Don't forget to use a fake name if you're serious about being anonymous. However, if you're planning on posting from a dial-up, give yourself a day or so, which means they can track you. If you're posting from elsewhere, you could maybe do it if you could put in some bogus BGP routes to advertise your address for a short time. It's tricky, and not worth the effort. Look into the anonymous remailers or just grow a pair and post it anyway.)
One thing, do NOT post to alt.tv.southpark. If someone were to post something like this, the correct forum would be alt.binaries.southpark. Please please please don't post it here. I don't have time to read through 178 different posts saying that binaries aren't allowed, then 290 saying it was a troll, with 569 don't feed the troll posts and 1448 posts complaining about the don't feed the troll posts.
I would hazard a guess at the el-cheapo camcorder - someone clueful enough to have the decent quality one wouldn't be so clueless as to encode it in ASF!
If it's a secret server, it shouldn't let you log on! It also shouldn't have a DNS entry (otherwise it's not very secret :)

Not at all, just use replay.com, a chain of anonymous remailers, plus mail2news.nym.alias.net - send anonymous e-mail to mail2news, which will then post for you. It works with binaries, although I've only posted about 100K of binaries in a single posting so far (nothing subversive, just a test).
Most ISPs will never bother to follow this up - someone complaining would have to whinge at mail2news, then go right back through the chain of anonymous remailers - the adminstrators of which would all be extremely uncooperative for obvious reasons!
Exactly. But posting to news is never a good idea, you'd have to encode it first (which would increase its size by at least 25%), and most news servers either miss portions of binaries or, as mine does, expire binary newsgroups within a shorter time than text-news.
Guess again. The high-quality one I've seen is in ASF. I personally find it's quality about the same as RM, though for political reasons I prefer to not use ASF unless required. (Like to watch SP:BLU.)

I thought of this, but I've never seen anyone post 100Megs via a remailer. It could be done of course (would suggest using Agent as your mailer).

Get a better news server. My crappy server here at work expires binaries way too soon, but that's probably the best way to distribute it sort of multicast, which is stuck in political limbo.
