I must say that I'm rather disappointed in many of the members of this group. I saw at least as many, if not more, 'Damien was a total let down' posts than 'Damien kicked major ass' posts. While I think Matt & Trey have their work cut out for them if they are going to ever beat Mr. Hankey, Damien was a great episode.
I'll start at the logical place to start - Cartman. As he is the single funniest character on the show, it's the natural place to start. Look at his lines in the show. The one that stands out to me isn't funny when looked at on it's own, or even in context. It's the way that Cartman says 'Ants in the Pants? Ants in the Pants!' that had me laughing my ass off. His temper-tantrum after unwrapping Ants in the Pants was great and I particularly loved the 'Party On/Party Off' switch. Also how Cartman had all the gifts everyone was to get him all planned out, even down to giving a little Q&A type session during recess, complete with charts.
Then there's Damien. The little smile he flashed when talking to Pip outside Cartman's party was great. I loved the part when he was talking to the counselor. Was it just me, or did the counselor sound a lot like the hippie teacher on Beavis & Butthead? I also liked how he wanted to fit in for some odd reason. I haven't seen The Omen yet, so maybe I'd be thinking differently if I had, but he just seemed like a new kid who wanted to get along in a new school. And being the spawn of Satan is always cool.
The one thing I didn't like was the end of the fight. It seemed like such a cop-out that Satan took a dive just so he could win everyone's money. I guess it would have been a rather abrupt ending to the show if Satan had won, but it sure would have been coolto see how they would have portrayed the end of the world. Satan's voice was good, with that thunderous boom and echo.
Perhaps the most shocking thing of all was that we actually saw Kenny's mouth _and_ heard him speak clearly. Sure, he was a duck-billed platapus at the time, but it was shocking nonetheless.
While this may not have been the best episode ever, it was certainly better than anything else that was on and was a good South Park.
