Why does everyone(ok most) people say pip is french?

He has an english accent. and a very un-subtle one at that. and he also wears a cap like the english children do in the movies.

MaskedMan no fancy sig.

Because little kids are ignorant and can't tell the difference. All they know is that Pip isn't American. -Toni

I never understand the reason why everybody hates Pip. Some have suggested that it is his lack of assertiveness, but that still doesn't justify their downright hatred toward him. They just don't have to respect him. It is believable that someone like Cartman would pick on him, but Stan and Kyle are supposed to be more sensible than that.

In the real world, an obnoxious fatass, like Cartman, who throws a fit and kicks everybody out of his birthday party because one person didn't bring the birthday present he demanded, is far more likely not to have any friends.

Or is it the jealousy for being the rich kid who carries around $50 bills?

But Pip is MUCH more different, between his voice and clothing, than Cartman, who's just fat.

That, too... but it seems like the kids aren't aware or care about Pip's money... or they'd be ripping him off left and right.

It was in "Damien" that Chef specifically tells the children not to hate anyone for being different when they tell him there's a new freak in the class, yet he too seems to encourage and participate in the Pip persecution by making him play football without a helmet and tells him to shut up when he has just won them the dodgeball championship.

Sounds like their hatred of Pip is extremely intense if they judge their friends/enemies by how much they persecute Pip...just for looking and talking differently????

But Cartman is downright rude, obnoxious, and offensive. I can't see how anybody would forgive him after his birthday party tirade.

Maybe they'll one day make an episode dedicated to the story of Pip and give us some insight into his background and why everyone hates him. Perhaps the kids have the misfortune of having classical literature in the school curriculum, and as a result, have grown a hatred for anything resembling a character from a Dickens novel. :)

You see, there probably isn't really a reason for the kids to hate Pip. I have read in the TV Guide (in the secrets of South Park section or whatever from a while ago) that Pip was included as the kid everyone hated because Matt & Trey hate Great Expectations (Pip was the name of the main character in that book). So there ya go!

P.S. Did anyone here read that book? I had to for English in 9th grade--UGH! I can definitely see why M&T made Pip the hated one!

Ah, yes, Dickens ... there is a special place in hell for that man. I read an awful lot of classical literature but with a few exceptions ("A Christmas Carol", for one) I can't stomach the man.

What you have to remember is that Dickens' work was originally run in newspapers and magazines, and he was paid by the word. When your salary is negotiated that way, it's never a house ... it's always a large, well-lit, many-windowed, ivy-covered, slate-roofed, expensive house in the very centre of a large city. And so on ...

Actually you can die if you drink to much water, I've heard it discussed on two different accounts. I think it boils down to a cellular(sp?) level, and your cells couldn't handle water. Yeppers, just like Pip in Great Expectations. His (the Great Expectations one)name was Philip Pirrip or something, but was called Pip for short. As the Pip in that novel said, "My father's family name being Pirrip, and my Christian name being Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip." (yes, I have that thing memorized because I had to read the stinking thing so many times) So, both Pips names are really Philip. And South Park Pip is based on the Great Expectations in other ways as well (parents being dead, some things he says, etc.)

In Big Gay Al it was obvious that chef had no use for the little wanker either.

Nostalgia is like a grammar lesson: You find the present tense and the past perfect.

  • Anal Probe (catches Cartman's fart-fire) (but is he introduced yet? hm.)
  • Big Gay Al (has to play football without helmet, gets bloodied)
  • Cartman's birthday episode

Any others? Seems like that's about it.

The simple fact of the matter is that Pip is different, and little kids usually make fun of something or someone they can't understand or relate to. When I was in third grade I told my best friend (who wasn't at the time) I came from the Philippines, which are made of islands. She started teasing me about the island part, asking me if I lived in a hut and wore a grass skirt. She didn't know any better. Kids are mean, vicious, ignorant little bastards. Yep. I can totally relate here. Kids also pick on those who aren't assertive (like Pip) and don't stand up for themselves. I remember, earlier this year, I was a quiet, unassertive, goody-two-shoes type, similar to Pip. Some asshole started spreading rumors about me, saying I cheat in order to be the #1 ranked academically in the class (which I *DIDN'T* ever do, and never would). Well, that was just ruining my reputation, so that really got me upset. But, one day, as this kid was tormenting me, saying, "So, how does it feel being a cheater now?" Well, I don't really know what happened to me next, but it was definitely for the better. I said, first really calmly, "Well, it can't possibly feel any better than this!", and I shoved that asshole right into the door. Then, as he was getting to his feet, absolutely shocked about what I did, I said, "Oh, and by the way, Merry Christmas. You better enjoy it now, because if you keep spreading these rumors about me (he also started one that I was a slut, which I definitely am *NOT*) your New Year is gonna be living hell! So don't fuck with me!" Needless to say, after Christmas vacation, I didn't hear anything from him or his followers ever again. And, since that time, I've been able to stand up for myself and everything. No one has picked on me since then, and gotten away with it. (I've put the school bully in her place, silenced the kid who terrorized both the teacher and kids in our homeroom, and many other good deeds for the betterment of humankind). If Pip would stand up for himself, then he wouldn't be bugged.

She wouldn't fight because she thought it wasn't nice and she'd get in trouble with the teacher, but we told her to fight back and if she explained to the teacher she didn't start it, she'd be fine. Well now she does. The other kids won't dare mess with her. One time (she told me) this girl wanted to start something so she started pushing her against a tree. My sis got pissed and fought back. She went "POW!" and she fell to the ground. Her retainer went flying. She stood up and tried to sneak up behind her but my sis did a back hand fist "POW!" like the babboon Rafiki did in the Lion King.
