Feel free to disagree with me, but South Park: BL&U was not very funny
the second time around. You had to smile at some of the gags, but
hearing/seeing them once seemed to be enough. This did not surprise me, as
most South Park content, with the exception, perhaps, of The Spririt of
Christmas, Cartman Gets and Anal Probe, and An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig,
were not funny more than once (of course some episodes were not funny in the
first place, but that's another topic). I concede that the theatre was
nearly empty the second time I saw it, and a full house always makes a funny
movie much more enjoyable.
However, to those who have seen the movie once, go see it again, not
only in support of South Park and all it stands for, but because the movie
is packed with cameos and other interesting clips, and there's no way you
could have caught it all the first time.
I don't disagree, but I wonder why you consider it noteworthy. Most video comedy -- and especially comedy that depends heavily on surprise value -- is much less funny the second time, for obvious reasons. I don't usually laugh at plain old jokes when I hear them twice either. Who does?
Outwardly, not many, but inwardly, quite a few of us. Knowing what is going to happen, by either reading spoilers or seeing it twice, usually enhances my appreciation of a movie or a music score. Sure I'm not going to react the same way twice to Saddam's dildoes (that's why wifey and I are going to drag a couple of friends in with us!--to watch them!!!). But there are too many details for me to remember in just one viewing.
I have played the soundtrack and read enough reviews and spoilers of BLU to have a pretty good idea of what happens and what to expect when I see it. Whether this will be detrimental or not to my viewing pleasure, or give me a better appreciation of gags I might otherwise not get the significance of, I cannot say. But I agree, many movies repay multiple viewings, quite simply because you miss stuff first time round, or quite simply because you just want to re-live the experience one more time. It's the same with that classic film "Stand By Me" with River Phoenix and Will Wheaton: if I've seen it once I must have seen it a dozen times, and on each occasion I am moved to tears.

I've seen this movie 3 times so far, and I still think that it's really funny. I laugh at the jokes on the screen, then I start laughing because I know what joke is coming up next. :)
There definitely are many movies that stand several or many viewings. Especially movies that have twist endings like "The Ususal Suspects" and "The Game." They're good to watch multiple times since you can see how the characters are set up during the movie, instead of trying to replay the entire movie in your mind. Also, another good movie is "The Matrix." There were parts that I found confusing while watching it the first time that made sense by the end of the movie, but I wanted to see it again so that I could rewatch the original confusing parts and have them make sense. If you understood that. :)
I'm not sure what to think about this, except to say that I have seen several episodes on numerous occasions and each time has been almost as enjoyable as the first; also, the soundtrack itself repays multiple plays. I agree that once you know what happens, the sense of anticipation is slightly less, but I *DO* know that unless I consider BLU to be an absolute turkey, I'll watch it at the cinema at least half a dozen times, as much to support it and help boost its chart position as for the sheer hell of it and all the laughs.

Geeez....he didn't say that he no longer likes the show...he just said that he doesn't think it was as funny the second time he saw the movie. Was what he said REALLY cause to killfile him? He was just giving his opinion and he wasn't even being insulting. Sheesh.
I could explain to him the proper reasons to killfile someone, but I doubt he'd be receptive. Considering how he hasn't contributed a thing to this newsgroup besides his plonkings, I think it may be a good idea to do to him what he's been pretending to do to the entire newsgroup.

Try this: (if possible, of course.) Go see it with a friend who hasn't seen it yet. For me, that's almost like seeing it again for the first time. It may work for you too. Of course, you probably don't want to see it for a *third* time, but in case you do. . .

I did that...every time I saw it, I've seen it with someone who hasn't...The second time I saw it with my brother, the third with a friend from AOHell...he brought some of his other friends, tho and they'd seen it before.

I disagree with you. I've seen it 4 times, and still find it very enjoyable. Sure it's not drop dead funny anymore, but do you really expect it to be? However, you can take so much more of the movie in. Last night I noticed some things I missed the first 3 times, and when I see it for the 5th time I'll still be finding more stuff. Infact, one thing I've noticed is, it doesn't seem as long the more times you see it. The first time it did kindof drag, but the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time it felt like it was to short. I mean, before you know it you are already at the final scene.
I finally saw people walk out last night! Right after Uncle Fucka. Oh well, atleast South Park still got their money.
There is some truth to that, as many of the jokes work best because you don't see them coming for a mile, and they jolt you right out of your seat, so you just can't help but laugh.
For example (spoilers):
-Bill Gates tries to defend his Windows '98 and gets shot in the head. -Cartman is fitted with a V-Chip and is shown a bunch of cue cards of words to say. After fairly innocuous words, he is shown a card with the words "Horse Fucker" on it and, surely enough, it has a picture of someone having sex with a horse. -The boys discover Cartman's Mom staring in a German "Shyser" video. -Cartman's Mom explains what a rim-job is (but then, considering her track record, that shouldn't have been much of a surprise).
While these jokes are funny by themselves, they got more effect the first time around.
True. In fact, when I saw the movie the third time, I nearly spent more
time watching the reactions of the people I went with than watching the
movie itself.

Beats me. I could never see anything funny about T&P from the get-go. Just a couple of immature prats who think farting's funny. What the boys see in them beggers belief.
Even so, the rest of the Banriff repertoire is an absolute hoot.

That was very clever. There was nothing "offensive" in the movie until the T&P movie. That would be the first opportunity for those who don't really belong to leave. I don't think it was an accident, and I give credit to whoever wrote it.

I've seen it once and I didn't care for it that much-but there are some really funny parts. I don't think I'll be watching it again. The guy sittin next to me at the theater feel asleep!-LOL.
