I am one of those thousands of FAMILY GUY fans who was saddened when it left FOX, but happy when it appeared on Cartoon Network's ADULT SWIM (as well as DVD). They show's creators are very into tv shows of the 80s/movies of the 70s (as made point with the logo of the "i" in "Family Guy" (or some other part of it being a TV). In one ep Brian, the talking/drinking dog, is having trouble with a mid-life crisis. He sees a shrink played by Sam Waterston and mentions the movie "Logan's Run". I finally rented it tonight. Now "The Wacky Molestation Adventure" makes more sense! "For tonight is Carousel!" says Mayor Cartman. I knew that joke had to have been from some movie, but didn't get it.
I am amazed at the continuing smart humor this show provides and as with "The Simpsons" there are hidden jokes/smart jokes/things that reward you for being well-read, up to date on politics, science (see Homer^3 (the 3D ep where he enters the THIRD DEMENSION), and of course TV. See also TRON gags in both Jewbelee & The Super Best Friends (Moses as the MCP cone... I had only played the TRON video game, but it still looked familar.. I have yet to see all of TRON (they joke with the motorcycles the ONLY TIME Peter (Family Guy) had been defeated it was a motorcycle match with him and high school buddy Eric), will someday.
Logan's Run was pretty good. Ahead of its time and pretty cool. The whole time I saw the Carousel scenes I thought of Kenny dead near the statue of John Elway or Butter's claiming he was ready.
Matt & Trey must have been fans of "Logan's Run"---or is Carousel part of another reference?
