Mecha Streisand: Weaker than "Damien"

(...which wasn't nearly as good as "Tom's Rhino")

Sorry, guys, this one just didn't do it for me. Half the show was dedicated to Leonard Maltin unfolding that ridiculous "Mecha" premise and the other half was almost entirely monsters destroying the town. "Godzilla", fine, we get it, we really do.

Maybe a second viewing will improve this one, but overall I saw less of the subversive humor that distinguished earlier episodes. (Finding 50 ways to call Barbra Streisand a "bitch" doesn't count)

Coupla random thoughts (observations, not criticism):

I did like Cartman's "Massa makin' me work" song. :)

Anyone else notice how HIGH Cartman had to jump to try and open Kyle's bedroom door? Sometimes little touches like that can make me laugh out loud...

Anyone catch the song Chef was singing when Maltin first visited him in the cafeteria? "Gimme little bit o' that pepper..." That was an excerpt from "Skillet" by The Time. Came out in 1989, same year as The Cure's DISINTEGRATION ("...the best album ever!" -- Kyle). Ah, college... the best 6 years of my life. :)

Do 8-year-olds really listen to The Cure?

Very few. I think that was the point; i.e., most 8-year-olds would be more familiar with Barbara Streisand than The Cure. Of course you have to wonder about anyone whose idols include Brian Boitano.

I was 12 when I began. now, nearly 23, and I still dig 'em. So seeing Robert kick Cartmen in the groin was great:)

I think that was kind of the point. The way the kids were slobbering all over Robert Smith was reminiscent of the way many tv series actors fawn all over their guest stars. Of course on SP it was much funnier.
