Character Development

Am I the only one who isn't really liking the direction they're taking with Cartman?

Cartman is funniest and best situated when he's a total moron, which he was a lot in the early days. As a moron, he said moronic and retarded things. He then morphed into a sadistic asshole, which was still really funny, because as mean as he was, there was never any true, purebread hatred wishing of death (except for hippies) on anyone. It was a childlike hatred.

Then, he took a significant turn in character development in one episode, where he fell in love with Wendy. The episode ended fantastically with Cartman walking away and sighing, obviously hurt at the rejection. So what happened to that? It was almost completely forgotten after that; but I think it was a positive step in Cartman's character development. They should have gone with that and explored it.

And then you have the Cartman of today. Gone is the innocence. Gone is the childish nature of his anger (sure, he taunts, but his tauntings have much deeper meanings). Gone is much of what made him funny. Now he's completely evil, something that -isn't- funny.

Anyone disagree?

Not at all, in fact I posted much the same on another thread lamenting how Cartman has changed from being an obnoxious but lovable A-Hole into a Force of Evil. A few years ago he could imitate Hitler's vocal style and mannerisms w/o knowing the meanings behind them and it still had a touch of innocence; now he seems to know exactly what hes doing and goes about it w/ sadistic glee. I had been optimistic about "The Passion" because the last two weeks were promising, specifically with Cartman--he was being a stupid douche again, making fun of people and running his special olympics scam but more in the lines of being a jerk, not evil.

The Passion of the Jew was overall pretty weak...it looked rushed, with only a few really funny lines and some tedious angles that simply didn't work. It bordered on being preachy--not in the self-aware way we've come to expect, but as if they were unaware how uninspired their take on Cartman and the whole "Passion" nuttiness had become.

Hopefully the rest of the season will be better for Cartman.

Yeah, but only after being provoked. Tederman escalated events until that was the only reasonable retaliation left. Its one thing to feed a piece of scum like Scott Tederman his parents (and do it in a funny way)...Fuhrer Eric wasn't just evil, he was boring.

Don't forget the time he set up a lawn chair to watch Butters get beaten up by his parents . . .

No, you're not the only one. I used to like Cartman's character. Now, he's turned out to be Hitler's mini-me as I said before.

This is the Cartman I remember. An Archie Bunker persona as a child.

A good episode. A boy's first relationship with a girl.

Well, he was totally evil in this week's ep and it's wasn't too cool. That's why it was good to see a wacky Mel Gibson fart at his face! That's the best part of the show.

This group of "friends" routinely betrays each other, and I find it disturbing. This cynicism which is common in TV shows and commercials shows friends screwing each other over as though it is normal, and I'm sick of it. This is not how true friends behave. Southpark is a fraud.

Trailer Park Boys has better morals.

The commercials where they train kids to be greedy and not share their Doritos or whatever plant paste pressed crap they try to sell, "Get your own bag". The media is training kids to be little rat shits.

In 708, the "Metrosexual" episode even Stan turns his back on Kyle, leaving him to be beaten up for not looking like a fag.

Trailer Park Boys is funny but it does not show friends betraying each other almost every episode.

You realize it is a cartoon, and made for the adult audience, for that matter, huh? The media does not have a responsibility to raise your children - that is always up to you. If you train them from the young age to be gullible idiots by sending them to church where they're supposed to believe that some mighty being sends angels down to Earth to impregnate virgins, then they'll grow up to believe whatever the hell the media and the politicians tell them. Teach them rational thinking and logical reasoning yourself and stop blaming the media.
