that's either a typo, or they are renaming 615 to 701.
the only reason to do that would be some kind of contractual thing with comedy central.
like "we sign up for x seasons, and each season must consist of at least 14 episodes".

The 704 most likely means that tonight's episode is actually the 4th episode to go into production for the 7th season of South Park. It is usual for South Park for some episodes with higher episode numbers to air before episodes with lower episode numbers. Take the fourth season for instance. The first four episodes of that season, in order, were 402, 401, 404, and 403. Also, the Great Expectations episode, which was one of the earlier episodes to go into production for Season 4, wasn't completed until November.

Wednesday's episode, or #704, was the 97th episode. If you'll notice, that will make episode 703 the 100th episode. As you know, the title of 704 is "Cancelled". Coupled with the comment of the Jewsians that no series should ever get past 100 episodes since otherwise the plots and settings will get ridiculously stupid and stale, the ordering of the episodes amused me greatly.
