Has anyone noticed that hardly anyone likes South Park anymore? Or how the episodes are just getting crapper, and you end up holding on hoping for at east one good joke? Why has it got so crap in Season3 when it was just classic in Season 1? South Park used to have thousands of fan web pages, but they are all disapearing through loss of interest and Comedy Central. I used to love nothing more but to watch classic episodes with my friends, but now no one even breathes a word of it. I think that the factors which made it good at the begginning have all gone now, and unless Comedy Central can pull something descent out of their collective asses thats good, South Park is going to roll of our screens an unpopular program.

But many i'm in the minority? What do you think? James Clarkson

I think SP is a much better show now than it was at first. imo, Cartman Gets an Anal Probe, though a classic, is pretty boring compared to the episodes now. There is less interest now because a bunch of the first "fans" were just watching and talking about it because it was "the new thing."

No way. Nothing since has matched the laughs I got from the first few episodes. Anal Probe and Volcano gave me convulsive fits of laughter. No episiode since has done that.

The ratings are as high as they've ever been. The "new thing" people have since moved on, but the fan base is as strong as ever.

I don't question that you liked the earlier episodes better. It is not a right vs. wrong issue. But, ask yourself this: Were they the first episodes you saw as well? If so, there is a possibility that (not to be confused with "it is probable that") they gave you bigger laughs because the concept of SP was new to you at the time and then you got more used to it. Of course, that "theory" goes out the door if you saw the first season's episodes (for the first time) after you had viewed the later seasons. Also, if those early episodes still, to this day, give you bigger laughs...

I don't have the ratings data but I trust that you are correct in saying that they are higher than ever. I was simply responding to the original post that stated SP was not generating as much interest as before. ("Has anyone noticed that hardly anyone likes South Park anymore?" was the quote.) Regardless of ratings, I think it is true that SP does not generate the publicity or public conversation that it used to. That does not equate being less popular; it simply indicates that people don't feel like talking about something that isn't new anymore. They can still watch it in droves and love it.

I think it's just that South Park got so popular, a lot of people who watched it the first season lash out at it because now it's "not cool" to watch it, since it got so big.

Ok, what I'm trying to say is that millions of people watched it during the first season, and it was still fairly unknown. Then when it got to be so popular, a lot of people stopped watching it because everyone else did, which makes it "not cool." Of course these people aren't fans.

I think it's gotten better since the first season. Maybe it's because I've seen all of season 1's episodes so many times, or maybe not, but I rather watch "Are you there God.." rather then Cartman getting an anal probe again, for the millionth time. ------------- Matthew Craggs http://www.bigfoot.com/~craggs

I started watching LATE in the second season, so all of it was new to me, and the only first season eps. I had seen every were the second video (Weight Gain 4000/Big Gay Al) and that I had only seen summer 98 I think...I'm not too sure. But anyway, most of it still appeals to me. DUDE! That Not Without My Anus stunt kicked ass. The first episode I ever saw was "Cartman's mom is a dirty slut". We waited a whole month, argued who his father was, theorized etc. As soon as I realized the supposed cliffhanger resolution was to air on April 1st, I said no way are we gonna find out who Cartman's father is. And then...to have to sit thru an entire Terence and Philip episode, oh man. Seriously, you had to be there to enjoy the joke. Maybe I'm biased tho'...I saw it coming. Not exactly the T&P thing, but I knew they were gonna pull *something*.

The T&P episode aired on April 1st and there was a big build up on who Cartman's Father was from the previous week. So many people here were so mad that they missed the point that the had been tricked. Even though the T&P episode was not that great is was funny that I was tricked.

Then people got mad about the three shows were not all of the boys were in. But what happened is that the three episodes were actually of the same night (the meteor shower). People whined and complained that they sucked because Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman were not together.

Don't get mad, just enjoy what they are doing. This is not a cartoon it is an animated series.

WHY do people ALWAYS complain about "South Park is getting crappier...." when Matt and Trey are doing the EXACT SAME THING as they did in season one?! The show is NOT losing originality or hilarity. South Park gets better and better with every show. How can you say the "Brown Noise" episode wasn't funny? Or "Starvin' Marvin' in Space" lacked originality? Maybe if you people even WATCHED the damn show you would see it's just as good as it was when it first began.

I totally agree. Only four episodes of season 3 were any good, the rest are crap, IMO. The first two seasons were the best, and those are the episodes I think of when I think of South Park. Season 3 has been, more or less, well...pitiful. They've taken everything away from it that made it great and have watered it down so much that it no longer has any kick to it. I use to tape every single episode. The last episode I taped was Sexual Harassment Panda and I won't be taping any others unless they start making episodes the way they use to. This does, however, seem unlikely, since the series is ending. Don't get me wrong, I'm a loyal fan. I love the show (at least, the first two seasons of it), but I don't like the direction it's taken.

That's too bad for you; you're greatly outnumbered. I believe that most people think that South Park has gotten better as it has gotten older. I guess there will be no cause for them to make them "the way they use to."

I'm with KyleIke13. The third season is awesome except for maybe three episodes that weren't great, but then again, season one and two had lousy eps too.

I'll play your unscientific game. I say that Season 3 is just as good as Season 2, if not better, and that both are vastly better than Season 1.

Unscientific because the question is loaded by the use of the word "actually," which implies that to choose Season 3 would be ridiculous, (e.g., How many of you guys actually like South Park? has an entirely different flavor from How many of you guys like South Park?).

Unscientific because those who respond are from a different statistical population than the population of SP viewers.

Unscientific because you changed the original topic slightly, in that no one until you was trying to compare Season 3 to Season 2; the original post and reponses (except for yours) were in reference to the quality of Season 3 vs. Season 1 only, not Season 3 vs. Season 2 and/or 1.

I know, I was just saying that any survey results would be tainted because the question was worded in such a way that discouraged voting that the current episodes were just as good or better than the first season.

Something else to consider: How many people who liked the first two seasons but not the third actually stick around this newsgroup?

I think the overall quality of the SP eps is going down, but how can you say it's not popular? It's still very popular, it was just that there was a month or two went it went into "Completely gay popular mode" where South Park was all that existed.
