FYI: The best servers that I know of at this point (for reading purposes) based upon amount of posts from other servers that are passed on through to the otherside are -
pub.news.netcom.uk and news.CIS.DFN.DE
Both require you to write to them for a password to post (though you can read pub.news.netcom.uk without a password).

http://pubnews.netcom.net.uk/ for the one in England and http://news.cis.dfn.de/ for the one in Germany.
And for those that actually think that America is the home of freedom, notice that I don't have a free server listed that resides in America (there are some pay ones that are pretty good about that, AOL and Earthlink might be the best.)
