You are SUPPOSED to post the binaries there, then post a message here announcing it.
Here's the deal of why you shouldn't post binaries in THIS group. When news servers accept a new group, they allot so much storage space for it. A discussion-only group uses much less storage than a binary group. If this discussion-group starts getting a lot of binaries, the people that run the servers will get pissed off cause it's taking up too much space. Some discussion newsgroups have been cancelled (no kidding) because of this problem getting out of hand.
An occasional binary posting won't cause that problem (and personally, I like to see them if they are on subject) but if too many are posted, you might just end up with NO 'alt.tv.southpark' on your server.

make it clear that it was in everyone's best interest not to post binaries here.
Needless to say I got flamed. I don't understand _why_ I got flamed, because I really
am just trying to help. I _have_ gotten several e-mails about this group already because of
Soxmas, and I don't want it to just die because no one will carry it anymore.
I just want to say again, binaries groups are for binaries, and non-binaries are _not_.

This isn't true. You just send out a new control message with the adjusted charter. I've done this before.
Whether or not I subscribe is meaningless because Usenet is a broadcast mechanism. There are thousands of newsgroups on my newserver that I'm sure nobody from here reads or posts to. However, those messages are still loaded through our T1 connection to our newserver. A T1 may sound like alot, but believe me, it isn't. Beyond just this newsserver, there are countless other ones that will download the messages needlessly. This does cost money. It costs you money and me, either directly (ISP upping your service charge) or indirectly (tuition goes up or your company pays you less). These things do add up, however miniscule they are.
