Okay, so where's the proof? It's not surprising, though. They probably monitor this newsgroup to keep track of what we like and what we don't like.

I really doubt that. Busy as they are, do you really think they would opt to read this group vs. doing something fun w/ all their money when they do have some free time? At most, they might have an intern do something like this and report back to them. Then *maybe* said intern's memo is read. imo

"Bao H. Lammy" wrote in message news:...

That's sort of what I meant. I don't think that they, themselves, actually read this group, but Trey did mention once that they do research on the Internet. I'm guessing that one of the other people who works with them probably does the Internet stuff.

I've had my own suspicions, but yea, I'd say it's a good bet that this newsgroup is watched in some form, though it's hard to say if Matt and Trey themselves do it. For example, Star Trek/Paramount employees usually stray away from the newsgroups and webpages/message boards, because although they do accept scripts as ideas, they could face a lawsuit if they "borrowed" an idea out of one of the ideas that they read that was posted to Usenet or the Web. However, Matt and Trey aren't exactly bound by those standards; Comedy Central gives them a lot of leeway and control over the product that they put out, and aside from FCC regulations Matt and Trey generally tend to have complete control and input on what they can and cannot do and also be able to take ideas at liberty to use for various episodes or references. It's kinda like how the Comic Book Guy in The Simpsons is a parody of alt.tv.simpsons. He didn't really *start out* that way, but that was what he became. The writers eventually made it known blatantly that they do read newsgroups, when they were the ones responsible for alt.nerd.obsessive being created after Comic Book Guy mentions it in an episode. The writers will frequently put indirect references to the Internet and Simpson fans on the 'net within the episodes, but to my knowledge (I *could* be wrong, but I doubt it, because it would've been mentioned to death on Usenet) alt.tv.simpsons has not been mentioned directly in ANY form since the writers made it known that they take ideas from what the fans say on the Internet.

Most likely, both Matt and Trey read this group themselves, but either simply lurk (in which case, HI GUYS!) or post under pseudonyms. If they post under pseudonyms, I would imagine that they don't post very much, since with the movie that came out awhile back, as well as the pre-cancellation of That's My Bush! and the new episodes of South Park, they would be very busy. If they did post to here, it would be a very good bet of it being on their "off-time" when not at work and back at home (wherever that may be for them at the time).

Personally, I think they lurk *and* post, but that they don't post very often. Also I would wager they'd use an AOL account, because if you think about it, it'd be pretty easy to trace back a post by either of them. Say hypothetically they would be in San Diego, California. You'd merely have to find that out through trade magazines or public information, then keep an eye out for anyone using an ISP in that area and then do a little detective work to find out who was on the other end---something very easy to do if you know what you're doing. But by using AOL, it wouldn't show their location physically, merely an AOL identity.

Of course, there's always the possibility they've posted here in the past, without using AOL, and I just told them how to avoid being ID'd by anyone within this group. In which case, oh s<BLEEP>t.

Ya know...I have had my suspicions about some of the people in this group, as to whether or not they were Matt or Trey, but hey...if they do read this group, be glad that they take in part some of their fans, and they do take the time to see what we like or dislike about the show/episodes...

If they do read the group (which if they do, a big hello to them), let it be, and don't be harassing people trying to find out if it's them or not. Just be glad that they take the time from a busy life to watch the group and see what's going on.

As to the fact of using AO-Hell, I dunno about that...there are many ISPs out there that it would be hard to track one person on, but then again, you never know...soooooo

Anyway, back to the usual SP discussion,

Actually, the word from a correspondant at Southparkstudios is that Trey did once post to a fan forum (possibly this NG), but was accused of being a fraud, so he never returned. As for whether or not he still lurks here privately, I guess we may never know.

A Google search unearthed a post from a Trey Parker (Trey-n- [email]) on 1998/09/06. The poster was greeted with some guarded skepticism. Overall, if it were the real Trey Parker, nothing posted would have scared him away, IMO. There was actually very little fanfare surrounding the post, as I'm sure most readers had their doubts about the posters credentials (possibly due to the webtv address?).

Cfnweb is no longer up, but the thread was about the various things Christian Family Network found wrong with the show. The poster in question is indeed "Trey Parker" and here's his post. He only posted once.

You found it! You were trained well.

How do you know it *is indeed "Trey Parker"*? Unless... nah, couldn't be.

I will get back to this one.

You said he only posted once. This, to me, would suggest otherwise. And how do you know that any of *these* posts are actually from Trey?

I did some research on this addy...it's still in exisitence, and is still being used.

As to the reply of Matt: "You wouldn't believe it was us if we were standing on your front porch..."

I can agree with that, but I do believe that some people (not willing to believe it was them) would run then off by making smart-ass comments to them.

Well, okay, that's the end of Trey's posts. The rest are fom Matt, as you can see.

I can now ignore Trey Parker ([email]), as he came back as "jiMmY sTounSoN" ([email] --- remember "TrEy"?) posting links to a fan site http://www.angelfire.com/ak/MikesSouthpark/, that no longer exists. And as Trey Parker he posted this rather silly post at alt.comp.virus:

Hello. I have a problem with a empire monkey b virus. that problem is we cannot get rid of it without formatting the harddrive. We tried booting it from an uninfected disk, but it is an encrypting virus, so that didn't work. Then we tried using McCafries after we booted the system up, but that didn't work either. I am looking for some pointers, because I am clueless thankyou."

'Twas McAfee's he meant. And this is not a problem he would have without a staff member or two to help him out of it.

As for [email] ... it has only posted on this group, so it's a different person. Still checking...

This comes from a Yahoo chat in February 1998, seven months before the aforementioned post.

YAHOO INTERNET LIFE INTERVIEW WITH TREY PARKER

Yahoo! Internet Life's Managing Editor Stevan Keane chats with Trey Parker, cocreator of "South Park," about the characters who inhabit his cartoon world, his real world, and the Web.

SK: Have you seen the Palace chat site where you can go on as the little "South Park" characters? TP: I actually just did it a week ago. People told me, "You've gotta get on, you've got to see what it's like." And I got on and I couldn't believe it. But my username was "treyparker," so I kept going into rooms, and people were just like, "Yeah, you wish." And I'm trying to talk to people and no one would talk to me because they thought I was being a jerk. (laughs)

SK: Really, no one believed you? TP: No one believed me.

Who the Hell is harrassing anyone?? I merely put forth a theory on whether or not if they actually do post here, since besides the website this is pretty much the official place on the Internet to find out information about and discuss south park.

True, there are, but it's getting easier and easier.

RaydoggAlex Cainalt.tv.southpark

First off...I never said anyone was harassing anyone, I just stated that we (as NG readers...including everyone) shouldn't begin to harass each other to find out if they are Matt or Trey...

So before you go jumping down someone's throat for what they said, be sure you understand what they are saying...because so far, from what I've seen in the replys to what I said, you're the only one that's gotten upset about me saying anything about harassing people...so it seems to me that you took this out of context, or maybe you misunderstood what I meant, but anyhow...shit happens.

And, no Alex, I'm not going to start a flame war with you, and I do not mean to sound like an asshole with you, but I do think you jumped to conclusions before you understood what I meant about 'harassing' people.

I think it's a safe bet that they don't. I only live a few miles (or a few million dollars, depending on how you look at it) away from them, myself, and from where I sit, it looks like they hire some luser to monitor the group and report to them once a year with whatever he thinks is worth telling them about.

I seriously doubt that any such suit would prevail. The biggest risk of "borrowing" a suit from Usenet is the shitty episode that would result.

Not from a dial-up account. For all we know, they could read in Marina del Rey, but dial in to Fairplay, Colorado, and there would be no way to trace them beyond the node they called into.

Why would they be there? Didn't they say in that interview ("Goin' Down to South Park, on the X-Mas DVD) that they are based in Marina del Rey? If they were going to commute from San Diego, they might as well commute from Colorado, where both of them would probably be if they had their druthers.

I doubt that. Based on this message alone, can you tell what city, let alone address, I am posting from? [No looking me up in the phone book, or relying on my own representations about where I live. That's cheating.]

How would Earthlink show anything more? My own information only shows that I'm posting from some place where Media One did business before AT&T gobbled them up.

First off, there's no such thing as "cheating" based on the request that you made. Second of all, the circumstances that you made the request of are/were redundant, and thirdly, I don't give enough of a shit about you to find out where you are, and the reasons for my stating that are posted above.
