Cartman is "South Park"

Now, before all you Kenny fans jump on me for this, this is my own opinion. I think all of the characters in "South Park" are written somewhat well, and some better than others. Mr. Garison is done really well and off and on characters like T & P and Mr. Hankey are very good. Though, no one steals the show like Cartman. His character is probally the most interesting and overall the funniest of them all. He is to "South Park", what Krammer was to "Seinfield". Everytime I watch episodes like the Rainforest adventure, Chickenpox, and tons of others....its Cartman's lines that steal the show. The rest of the gang, is pretty much normal characters who have decent parts and play not-so-original roles. Feel free to disagree with me.

I think any character with the name Eric is guaranteed to be great. Instead of comparing him to Kramer on Seinfeld, I think an even more fitting comparison would be to say that Cartman is to South Park what Archie Bunker was to All in the Family.

The first episode of South Park I ever saw was Weight Gain 2000. I found Cartman's voice alone, regardless of _what_ he said, to be hilarious. Even after the funny voice wears off, the character is still very funny.

Now, screw you guys. I'm going home.

I would, but I can't. I agree. It always seemed to me that, although the show was about 4 little kids, it was really more like "Cartman and friends". Maybe it's because the first few episodes revolved around him. Between the Anal Probe episode and the Weight Gain 4000 episode, there was no doubt in my mind that Cartman was the comic chewy center of the South Park Tootsie-Pop. And that opinion hasn't changed.

BTW, the FCC doesn't have any regulation prohibiting cable stations from airing curse words. However, most basic cable stations censor their programming because they don't want a lot of viewer complaints, or cable companies dropping the channels from their systems.

But is he though? Cartman is cast as that stereotypical annoying fat kid that everyone thinks they remember from their childhood. Okay, so perhaps he can be an annoying kid sometimes. But then so can Stan, Kyle and everyone else. There seems to be too much of a tendency nowadays to look for convenient, nice neat little "pigeon holes" to categorise people into. Oh, yeah, let's see; we need a jock, an intellect, a fatso, and a tagalong. And hey presto! Four characters.

I've said before how dangerous it can be to ostracise people like this. Every school from elementary level up has its misfits, its outcasts, its niggers in the woodpile. And it is recognised that many dysfunctional traits germinate in the period running up to and through adolescence.

If we look back at the spate of schoolyard massacres these last few years, in places like Jonesboro, Springfield, Littleton, Pearl, and the like, one common thread running through all of them is that the kids responsible were all misfits, loners, outcasts. Now, it's a bit of a far cry to say that the rest of the other guys in SP should leave Cartman (and Pip) alone, otherwise they'll turn into mass murderers, but think about it: those behind the aforementioned events were third-graders once; were also misfits and, I suspect, not part of the jock clique.

If South Park holds up a mirror to dysfunctional America, the characters in it form part of that picture. Sure, the programme exaggerates, but at its most telling it reveals the truth about small-town Americana is one many parents would prefer to remain ignorant of, and the rose-tinted spectacles are the first casualty of South Park's ammunition.

I think every character carries the show. Even though Kenny is my favorite, I'd have to say the show is more so based on Stan. However, Stan needs Kenny, Cartman, and Kyle, while the rest need him. It's one of those perfect mesh type of things. :)

i agree, at first i liked kenny, but i like cartman partly cause he's voice is funnier than the other 3 boys, that's mainly why i watch it, even though some of the jokes can be offensive.....but i can just turn it off if it bothers me too much...8-)

And to top it off, I do a much better Cartman impression than a Stan, Kenny or Kyle impression.

I also do a mean Mr. Mackey. :)
