I've seen the trailer for tonight's episode about 3 times, and Cartman's pupils are huge! Anyone know what the deal is? I hope it has to do with the story, because if he stays like that, it'll be hard to get used to!
Cartman's Big Eyes
It was the eye doctor's doing (who calls him Piggy). Remember when we had our pupils dilated and they gave us those stupid shades?

Those weren't the shades you wear after getting your eyes dilated; those were "coke bottle" style glasses!
Hmm, why didn't he get the usual cheap black sunglasses-like things?

It was explained in the episode. The eye doctor gave him drops to open open his pupils to let him to a proper eye exam.

On the other hand, I know for a fact that it is a common practice by eye doctors... I've been a couple of times (nearsightedness) and to do a complete examination special eye drops are given to temporarily make the pupils dilate so the eye doctor can get a better idea of what's going on in there.

Guess I was given the standard eye exam since I do not recall my Eye doctor giving me any drops in past exams.

I've worn glasses for about 18 years now, and the only time I've had dilation done was this past time when I went to go for new contacts. Had never heard of it before then, but after having gone through it, I could definitely relate to Cartman walking into walls! ::grin::
It's used to get a better look at the inside of the eye, since when they shine an exam light into a healthy eye, the pupil contracts and reduces the field of vision. Dilation drops basically make it so your pupils can't contract, so they can get a better look. It also means that focussing on things that are close-up is a pain for a while until the drops wear off... ::grin::

AY!! I never got any shades!!! <screech> I been going to the eye doctor's since I was 7 (and I got glasses then). I switched to contacts when I was 13. Every single appointment I had, I had to get those eyedrops that dilate my pupils. It was torture. I couldn't stand light, including the light from the TV screens. Pupil dilation sucks ass...
why dont or didnt any of you people have laser corrective surgery, have any of you had it Cartman
Dude- like we all have the 2,000$ per eye that's needed for the surgery :P

More appropriate a question is where did Kenny get the money to take the bus out to see his girlfriend?

I asked my optometrist about it... she said that while my vision type could easily be corrected, she didn't recommend it to someone my age. (27) The eye can change shape slightly over the years and surgery that gives you good vision now could end up causing problems for you twenty years down the line. The long-term effects of eye surgery are not yet apparent, so you're really better off with contacts or glasses.

LOL.. um, no, I'm not pregnant. I don't think I'll have to worry about that one. :-) And yes, they're all alive and at least two have shrunk. It's just that, when you've worn glasses since age 5, and get told at age 19 that you'll still have to wait at least a few years for the eye to stop changing, you tend to get a little anxious for a those "few years" to pass.Sounds like I need to add a few years her "few years."

Well, glasses generally make someone look more intelligent... not a bad thing.
Besides... any of your grandparents alive? I know my great-grandmother and maternal grandmother both "shrunk" by a couple of inches as they got old. It's only logical that if their bodies change over the years, then their eyes could, too.
