Should we have such a newsgroup, so we could have all the fanfics in one place?

At this point, you should work on getting a charter and a justification section together, as explained in the guidelines. The charter should give details of what would and would not be on topic; the justification section should document the amount of current Southpark fanfic traffic in existing newsgroups. Post a full proposal here, including those sections, and allow a week for discussion.

Doing a DejaNews search for articles containing the word 'fanfic' in the subject header in the newsgroup alt.tv.southpark in the one month period between Oct. 9, 1998 and Nov. 9, 1998 has turned up approximately 11,000 articles. This is enough to justify the creation of such a newsgroup.

Unfortunately, the estimates at DejaNews are usually off by orders of magnitude. (Think about it--11,000 articles in 30 days would be over 360 fanfic articles per day in that one newsgroup. Does that seem realistic?) To get a more trustworthy result, set the option at DejaNews to show 100 results per page, and page through them until the number at the top says "exactly" and not "about." This should take only a few minutes. It would probably be most useful to show a two- or three-month period.

The charter looks fine to me.

One more pass through DejaNews and you'll have something solid.

That's a great idea, but there's one *LEETLE* problem. My server never ever picks up new newgroups (does this happen to anyone else?) If that group was created, I'm not sure if I'd be able to get it, and be able to keep writing fanfics, or if my server wouldn't get it (since my server isn't good at all--none in my area are, to my knowledge) I kinda wouldn't be able to write fanfics for y'all any more, and I wouldn't be able to read any of yours.

Do you ever go through the trouble of re-downloading the newsgroups from your server? My server picks them up, but my computer doesn't have them on the list because it never downloaded them.

In any case, there's always DejaNews.

You know, during the middle of the summer we were gonna create an alt.tv.southpark.fanfic, but the idea just fell through. It's a great idea and all, but then I'd have to add one more newsgroup to my list. Plus I don't think that either my provider or DejaNews would carry it for a while.
