by default HTTP operates on port 80 (web browser) NNTP operates on port 119 (Newsgroups) SMTP operates on port 25 (Outgoing mail) POP3 operates on port 110 (incoming mail) FTP operates on port 21(file transfer protocol) Some people just like to get an IP number and try to connect on any port they can ( 65000 as far as I know ) and if you have file and printer sharing enabled there is a chance they could upload (to your PC) anything, or download anything. You can get Port listening programs from Tucows ect, that work on the most commonly used ports. Justin Robertson wrote in message ...
I was warned about this when I got my cable modem installed. The tech that installed it had already set Windoze to disable the file and print sharing, however.
