What's the deal with Cliff Richards?

Cliff's a twat. His song is terrible. Buy the Hamster Dance single.

Anyone remeber the bit from "The Young Ones"?
RICK: "I think "Special Patrol Group" is a stupid name for a hamster".
VIVIAN: "Okeedokee then." (looks down at hamster) "Hello Cliff Richard."
"Special Patrol Group".
That's the answer to one of the coolest Young Ones trivia questions ever.
The other is "Transvaal".
Me, I always wondered who Cliff Richard and Felicity Kendall were, as they were both mentioned often enough on that show.

It ran briefly on US PBS stations, but it apparently was dropped because people wanted to pledge their dollars for more "cerebral" fare.....like "Are You being Served?". <g>
Ya know, I remember that, but I thought it was a fictitious show made up for the 'Vyvian burst through'.
Hey, don't go slamming 'Served'. Captain Peacock was da bomb.

Here is something I never understood about the show, which some of you more knowledgeable Brits may be able to answer. Why is it that the ultimate PC wanker like Rick would worship a Christian Righter like Cliff Richard (who may be known to some Americans for appearing as a guest on Billy Graham's Crusade specials)?

More fun new news re. Rik and the rest of the "Young Ones" cast......A POSSIBLE MOVIE!!
[swiped from another website, so sue me]
News Entry Date -- September 26, 1999: According to The TV Times, there are plans for a Young Ones movie reunion. In the film, Rik is now a presenter on MTV, Vyvyan's a top scientist who has invented flatulence-powered cars, and Neil runs a chain of sandal shops. But things go wrong when Mike shows up with urgent problems that bring the four back together. The release date is said to be 2001. According to TV Times, if all goes well, a major relaunch on tape and DVD of the original show will concide with the film's release.
But I thought they all died when their bus went off the 'Cliff'. ;)

Don't worry The young Ones will be back with a new series in the autumn.
Obviously this never happened. but Filthy,Rich and catflap followed soon afterwards (A much maliogned and UNDER rated show if you ask me!)
As far as a Young ones movie is concerned... Doubtful..
Guest House Paradiso (The *Bottom* Movie) has been panned to high heaven. I think they'd find it hard to find funding after that. (Maybe the name The Yopung Ones could pull mioney in. but I think the BBC have copyright of the actual *name* !.

For awhile, M-TV played another show with most of the cast of "The Young Ones" in it right afterwards on Sunday night. I think the name was "Comedy Club Presents..", and featured a diffent spoof/sketch every week. Could this have been that show?
My favorite was one called "The Super Snoops Seven" (I think) and was a spoof on those youngster detective type shows. What made it so funny was that you could see it as either very dirty or very innocent. I recall this one scene in which the Super Seven were in their tents camping and the one girl was in her tent, backlit, playing with her puppy... another repeated joke involved their dog being poisoned every day, and them always overhearing the bad guy's plans.. "Blah blah blah, conterfeighting ring, blah blah blah" and them finding empty vasoline containers and commenting "Something very QUEER is going on here!"
Oh, the memories!

No. There was never another series after the second.
This is one of the *Comic Strip Presents* series. Most of the comics from that stable (Mayal, edmunson, french, saunders, richardson, sayall etc etc... amde a few one off programmes. Mostly satiricl in nature
the one above is actually called Five go mad In Dorset, and is a satire on the old Enid Blyton Famous Five books.
"Oh no. They poisened Timmy!" "Never mind George... We'll egt another one!"
"OOoooo Timmy... you're So *licky!!*"

Arrrghh! I bet it's going to suck like all the other reunion shows... wait, didn't the crew die in a bus wresck at the end of the series?
But I don't see the connection, though, maybe apart from the fact that they're both annoying. :) You'd think they'd pick a musician who is more suited to Rik's left-wing politically correct character, like Billy Bragg or something.
So he has the same distinction as our friend Elton John. ;)

No. It's just plain piss-take and satire Bill. *Sir Cliff* is seen by The Yoof as being *Square and uncool* and it is an ultimate Irony that Rik (who thinks he himself, as *The Peoples Poet*, Is the EPITOME of cool), is a great fan of Sir Cliff.
